Kids & Fashion

There’s a new blogshop in town! And I so adooooore it! :)

I’ve been introduced to online shopping and my-o-my, the options are e.n.d.l.e.s.s.!!

shopping

I’ve been stuck though… I’m at the “going to be slim again” size. What does this mean?

Size 12 – Comfy BUT what a waste of $$! Cos it’d be too loose next week! Really.

Size 10 – Comfy if I keep my shoulders back, tummy tucked and butt out at all times. And darling, I prefer to stand, no sitting when I’m in this outfit!

Size 8 – Ohhh you know, that’s my original size? You see my wedding pics? Might even be size 6!

So you see, shopping online for me is a little battlefield of the mind. I’ve tried telling myself NO ONE can see the size label when I wear those clothes, but until then …

Back to this new blogshop. It’s for kids! I don’t have to go thru this sizing debate cos the pieces are either nicely fitting (so wear them every other day) or loose (so we wait till they grow into them).

I do shop online for my kids. I always find trendy American, kawaii Japanese/Korean or comfy Chinese outfits. These are always easily available. But it has reached a point of being saturation. I’ve seen too many kids decked in Guess, Carter’s, Jshoppers etc.

In this new blogshop, I found absolutely CLASSY European pieces online! Think French—Kenzo, DPAM, Okaidi, Chloe, Sisley, Spanish—Massimo Dutti, Zara, Italian—Benetton, English—Pepe Jeans!

And of course, I think this is a cool blogshop because they use really nice models! Check it out!

Nadine’s Birthday Party

Today was a Great day for our Little Nadine, as it was time for her to celebrate her birthday!

bdae

This was the very 1st time that we were throwing her a party, and we had the celebrations at the office nursery.

Besides the food that we bought from Old Airport Road, all of Nadine’s favourite people were there.

Apr

We bought a birthday cake from our favourite cake shop Pat’s Pastry.

Mei Mei was actually quite shocked at the sudden attention focused on her. In fact, she froze when it was time to sing the birthday song, and even more importantly when it was time to blow the candles.

However, Nicole and Nathan did not freeze up at all, and they were all ready to “step up” when it was time to blow out the candles!

Mummy says it looks like Nathan’s Birthday, instead of Nadine’s. :)

With so many candles, the other kids could not resist getting into the act as well!

Here’s the whole family in the picture:

Many thanks once again to the Mummies and children who came to the party.

PS: Nadine loves the presents and she was happily opening them in the morning! (Actually, she opened the left over wrapper due to the much enthusiastic help from her siblings).

How to make Easter Eggs

Mummy blogs…

Before the Easter weekend, I made a decision to ensure the kids were entrenched into Jesus’ death on the cross and His resurrection.

We were going to spend lots of time in church—the kids will have an excellent Children’s programme, Nicole will get to watch the Easter Drama, and for bedtime stories, we will tell the Good Friday story and Jesus’ resurrection.

I thought we should be covering it pretty well, until Nicole asked me on Thursday night,

“Are we going to make Easter Eggs? Do you know how to make Easter eggs?

easter-eggs

Wooooah! Without skipping a beat, I shot back,

“Of course darling! I know how to make Easter eggs, and we will make them TOMORROW!”

Now, for those who don’t know my artistic background… here goes:

  • I can’t draw a straight line.
  • I don’t know how to use the scissors properly.
  • I have difficulty colouring within the lines.

My earliest art rejection was at Pri 4.

I crumpled up a sheet of notepad paper, and used it to write a thank-you note to one of Mum’s friends. I thought it looked really cool and had the crumpled effect. Well, it was crumpled alright. Mum rejected it, thinking I used something from the bin!

Rejected

Oh Man! What was I thinking?

I’ve NEVER in my ENTIRE life made an Easter egg…

Is this going to be the moment when the kids’ image of their perfect mummy would come crashing down?

I knew this day would come… but surely not over an Easter Egg?!?!??

On Friday, I tried to sleep in. Didn’t work, cos my little alarm clock rang in my ears:

MUMMY, time to buy eggs! We’re going to make Easter eggs RIGHT?”

We went to the market, and there was absolutely no way to try to forget buying those eggs. Nicole went on and on, and Nathan caught on, and started asking about eggs too! Thank God Nadine can’t really talk yet…!

Back home, I decided to do a Martin Yan ala Rachael Ray show.

#1: Put Eggs in the pot gently

Step 1

#2: Add Water

Step 2

#3: Put the eggs to dry

#4: Draw. (No turning back. Those are permanent markers. Can’t say I don’t know. Can’t give up. Can’t pass markers to daddy)

What do you think? Can pass? Well, kids think they are LOVELY and they taste GREAT too! :)

… phew …

Parenting Tip: Don’t underestimate what you can do! Kids just love it when we do something different with them… you don’t need to be an expert in that field =)

btw… I took the easy way out with Markers cos I was not so sure if postal colour paint works on egg?!?! Anyone knows?

Random List of What Is Parenting

It seems seasonal, but such RANDOM lists are appearing again in Facebook, blogs and tweets. So we decided to do our own list of Random things we learnt about parenting since Nicole was born!

Here goes:

1. Each diaper can only hold that much pee and poo. As much as you wish for one that is super absorbent, one that doesn’t leak, one that doesn’t irritate the bottom, IT DOESN’T EXIST!

aman301l

2. Until the child is old enough to communicate his irritation with the full diaper, there are various ways to check!

a. Touch or rather press and squeeze (don’t ask me why) the front of diaper to check if it’s full.

b. Put your nose to the buttocks area to smell (only works if your child did a major smelly poo)

c. Lift the diaper in the following spots to see:

3. Children do not know and cannot understand the word WAIT

When they want your help to take something, it must be now. When they want a drink, it must be now. When they want to open something, it must be now. When they want to pee, it must be now. (this one, you better not try ur luck. can get messy!)

wda0561l

4. As above, I learnt children are not exactly the most trusting people in the world.

They don’t believe you when you say don’t touch.                            They don’t trust you when you say you’ll buy it later.                     They don’t think you mean it when you say the cane/spoon/spanking is coming.                                                                                                       They definitely don’t care a hoot when you say it’s good for them!

5. However, #4 does not apply to stuff they put in their mouths.

They really think everything that they pick up off the floor tastes good. Their tongues have a magnetic draw to anything-TV screen, mobile phones, books, shoes, wall, floor, ceiling (if they can reach it!). Their favourite? Nose snot! They love it!

bgr0360l

6. Back to #5, it doesn’t apply to food with vitamins and proteins.

Try dropping a cooked pea on the floor. It should entice them, ya? Green, round, small enough to pick up? Well, no kid I know would pick THAT up and pop into the mouth!

green%20peas

7. All parents are dictators

This is just one of our many dictatorial examples…

Don’t you think when little kids dress-up, they look really cute and adorable? Those miniature costumes look fantastic on them, and it would be so so so great to hear lovely comments like,

“oooh, she is soooooo cute!”

“Wah! they really look the part!”

“You are so creative! They look so good!”

.

.

.

.

.

Well, we were certainly creative! We achieved that through pure dictatorship, forcing, coaxing the poor kids to

“PUT IT ON!!! BECAUSE YOU LOOK SO SO GOOD!”

Erm… you can see Pirate Princess #1 has two good eyes, Pirate Princess #2 doesn’t really know where to focus her remaining good eye, and Pirate Prince’s scruffy look is marred by half-open eye lids.

So much for enjoying the party! We learnt that this dress-up AT BEST, can only last that 5 MINUTES for you to take your kodak moment. Thereafter, everything goes back to 21st century local time, local garb.

The primary lesson learnt … … … parenting is all about them … … …    if the kids are happy, we are happy!

Yona Yona Penguin

Last Saturday, the kids had the privilege to go to Jurong Bird Park for a special preview of Yona Yona Penguin. Tickets were kindly sponsored by OMY.sg  and many thanks once again to the OMY  team for selecting us! :)

yona_yona_penguin

Making its debut in Singapore, this animated film is by Japanese Anime Studio Madhouse.

Directed by Japanese animator Rintaro, director of Metropolis, Yona Yona Penguin is a Japanese animated movie with English subtitles about the amazing adventures of Coco, a small girl with a penguin coat, as she journeys through a world of fantasy and magic to save her friends from the Emperor of the Dark.

What’s fun about this event is that it was screened outdoors at the Pools Amphitheatre and it was a special one-evening only preview.

Jurong Bird Parl

Nicole was all excited about her outing to the Bird Park. Previously when we were here, it was also for an OMY’s event, when we won a Canon Camera and Canon Selphy Photo Printer. (Check out the contest entry here)

The excitement rubbed off on Nadine as well, and the 2 girls were all giggly as they entered the park with their tickets.

The Park’s Amphitheatre was crowded by the time we got in, as many families were there with their Potato Chips and Burgers and having a quick bite before the movie started.

The whole outdoor ambience actually reminded me of my younger days, when Dad and Mum brought me to the Jurong Drive-In Cinema, except that this time, we were not in our cars. It felt “rustic” but certainly a different experience for the kids and the parents.

We sat near the projectors, so that the kids could catch a glimpse of these big machines working.

DSC_0044

At 745pm, the show started promptly and the projectionist got the machines into action!

DSC_0035

Sorry, but got no pictures of the movie, as we were not allowed to take any pictures when the show started.

Synopsis: The show is about Coco. A rather adorable and fearless child, Coco lives alone with her mother not soon after the death of her father. Being a young girl in love with Penguins,  Coco spends many a night frolicking through the streets wearing her favorite outfit — a penguin costume — trusting that one night she might magically take flight to see her late father again. Critics will says that Coco’s youthful naivete is the film’s centerpiece.

The movie lasted for 88 mins, and the girls were ready to go home after the event.

Thanks once again to OMY, for making it a special Saturday for the family.

Btw, today was an ALL Girl’s event for the family.

Nathan got a virus, and he was at home resting with Popo.

But Daddy was happy to be surrounded by all his favourite women in the world!
