Old Geylang Seafood Restaurant

Looking for a One-Stop Seafood Restaurant? How about visiting this new food haunt in Geylang? Yes! This is the same famous Geylang where you will find the renowned Beef Hor Fun, Soya Bean and other famous late night dishes!

Introducing to you “Old Geylang”, which is located just next to Geylang  Lorong  23 and located within the same compound as the Old Singapore Badminton Hall.

When I first entered the premises, the sheer size of the whole set-up takes one by surprise.  And rightfully so…Old Geylang is actually the combination effort of famous restaurants like Old Punggol  International Seafood Restaurant and the popular Turtle House (which was previously located at Geylang Lor 36). The 2 restaurants decided to come together, and provide customers, a seamless experience of “Everything under ONE Roof!”

If you always wanted to drink Turtle Soup, while eating Seafood at the the same time…Well, This is the place! Smile

In fact, this is not just ordinary Turtle Soup. As Part of our Media Invite, we had a chance to talk to Mr Ong, and he has been making Turtle Soup since he was 10 years old, learning as a young apprentice from his father. As a result of his meticulous preparation, this dish from Turtle House, has made it’s mark in Singapore folklore, and has been featured in many Newspapers and Food Digests.

The thing about good soup is that…even though the kids were a bit squirmish about drinking a soup brewed in turtle meat…after the first gulp…they were immediate fans! Smile (Check out the many Newspaper Articles about the restaurant in the Photo wall above).

And the best thing was that…Turtle Soup was just an appetizer Smile

The Amazing thing about “Old Geylang”, is that you can start off with Turtle Soup, and continue on with dishes like Peking Duck and your Roasted Meats at the same time.

For those of you who like to take a ride on the Wild Side, you may want to experience House Specials like the “Crocodile Tail”.  It is certainly worth trying out for oneself, as the meat is soft, tender, high in protein and low in fat. Check out the thick layer of Collagen surrounding the meat! Smile

The thing I like about “Old Geylang” is that the whole place is a seafood Paradise. “Old Punggol” is known for it’s seafood, and we were greeted with traditional favourites like Chilli Crabs, Boston Lobster and I especially loved the Salted Egg Oysters.

Most of us are used to Live Oysters, but not one sautéed by a Salted Egg. Each Oyster cost $8 a “pop”, but the Oyster is one bursting with flavour, and promises to be a gastronomic experience.  The taste of the oyster was unique, as it lingered and bewitched my taste buds! Totally Loved it, and something that one has need to try!  Smile

family restaurant

Overall, we loved the restaurant, as there was not just great Seafood for the adults, but there were also traditional favourites like Hor Fun, Fried Rice, Satay and even Bak Kut Teh served in this restaurant. If you are thinking of introducing an Overseas Friend to Good Singaporean Food, Old Geylang is a good place to start.
