Parenting has many challenges! One of the woes of being of parent, is the realisation of our own inadequacy in helping our kids with their school work. Little grammar rules start to hound us, Chinese characters look more foreign, and what’s worse, Maths just stops making sense!

You can imagine what I’m like when I attempt to teach the kids Math. There’s intense frustration at the kids and on myself! I am unable to make it fun, digestible and interesting. All I could spew out were important phrases, and methods of working (which was either wrong or simply not the same as Mrs. Tan’s !)

Enter Math Monkey, the very fun, yet totally enriching Math programme for kids. At Math Monkey, the kids learn simple Math hacks and are constantly challenged to think outside the norm to find a solution. These Math hacks are so simple and applicable that the kids are forced by peer pressure to ensure they master the hacks. Simply, they can’t wait to ‘show off’ to the others all the tips and tricks!

Using Vedic Mathematics, a collective name given to a set of sixteen sutras (formulas) from the Vedic period in India from 1500 to 800 B.C. Verdic Mathematics is built on sutras which were built on the foundations of rigorous logic, thereby helping to guide and hone the human mind into approaches of logical reasoning. The formulas give direction to the mind, enabling the mind to solve algebra, geometry, calculus and other complex mathematical problems quickly.

Our kids attended lessons at the East Coast Outlet, and they thoroughly enjoyed the lessons. Using games and their “Magic formulas”, the kids are taught to calculate quickly, and most of all, they enjoyed their lessons at Math Monkey. We had a chance to interact with the management at the East Coast Branch, and Mr Kendric Tham was most helpful in demonstrating the virtues of Verdic Maths. The kids love the environment, and also the “Prizes” which they they are able to “Win” through the school’s reward system.

If you are thinking of sending your Kids to Math Monkey, parents will be glad to know that lessons are built on an ability based program. This ensures that they can cater to students of all abilities and therefore able to push a child against their own boundaries of knowledge. Parents who are interested, will be glad to know that Math Monkey offers a evaluation class to assess the learning ability of each new student.
