Madame Tussauds and Images of Singapore (Giveaway)

Madame Tussauds is now at Sentosa, and it comes complete with a history of Singapore! The iconic Madame Tussauds which showcases wax figures of famous celebrities, has always been the “talk of the town” whenever they visit Singapore, and now they are a permanent attraction on Sentosa. (Giveaway details at end of post)

According to the history books, Madame Tussauds started when she searched through corpses to find the severed heads of executed citizens, from which she would make death masks. Her death masks were held up as revolutionary flags and paraded through the streets of Paris during the French Revolution. The very first Madame Tussauds was in London, and it is now found in most major cities in the world.

The kids have never visited Madame Tussauds before, and therefore we were excited to bring them to the museum for their maiden experience.

If you are going to Madame Tussauds, tickets can be bought online, with special discounted prices for both Images of Singapore and Madame Tussauds! The best prices are also available online, so it would be good to surf before you go. Both venues are next to each other, and a visit to Images of Singapore completes the whole experience, as both attractions are linked by a “Spirit of Singapore” boat ride.

To help orientate Singaporeans, “The Images of Singapore” experience is where the Old Surrender Chamber is located. However, the experience is now totally different! It is now fully Interactive, with actors dramatizing and bringing out the life found in historic Singapore. From the Founding of Singapore in 1819, all the way to the Japanese Invasion, it is a history lesson that engages your senses!  Both my wife and I enjoyed it, as we are both  “history” students, and we loved watching our textbooks coming to life! 🙂  Unfortunately, no cameras are allowed in this section, so therefore, I wasn’t able to capture any of the moments.

Upon entering Madame Tussaud’s, our kids quickly took to posing with the famous celebrities, which they enjoyed tremendously.

For adults who have been to the Trick Eye Museum, we found the experience similar but different. The difference is that at Madame Tussauds, visitors get to pose with famous celebrities, while at the Trick Eye Museum, it was more based on one’s creativity with scenes. However, they both require lots of imagination, as one needs to think, to come up with creative shots. However, the level of difficulty is definitely higher at Madame Tussauds, as the models are already fixed in a pose, and looking in a certain direction. This limited the poses, which the visitors can undertake.

However, with so many famous celebrities on show, Daddy and Mummy could not help themselves, but they had to get into the act as well. Here is Daddy posing as Elliot from the Movie “ET”, and Mummy could not take her hands off Tom Cruise!

Local favourites like Phua Chu Kang were there to woo the local crowds. We went to Madame Tussauds after watching Gurmit Singh play a prank on visitors to the Museum. The video is quite funny, and it also made us weary of posing together with the famous Phua Chu Kang! He just looks so real, and we were worried that he would somehow come to life! 🙂

There is a section of the Museum, where you can also take a look “Behind the Scenes” and discover how the models are created. The Parents were fascinated by the amount of detail paid to every model, as Madame Tussauds got every hair and moustache right down to the last strand. For example, for Gandhi’s watch, they even made a  replica of his favorite time piece. To heighten the kid’s curiosity, there is a whole jar of “eyeballs” for the kids to play with! 🙂

Overall, the kids had great fun rubbing shoulders with celebrities, and we also turned the outing into a mini History lesson, introducing the kids to famous people in time.

The museum is currently having a Who do you want to meet’ campaign where members of the public have the chance to vote for their favorite Singapore icon. Once the chosen figure has been selected, a wax figure of the Singapore personality will be created in Madame Tussauds’ London studio and will then be launched in the Singapore attraction in the second half of this year. The ‘Who do you want to meet campaign’ will run from Thursday 15th January until Sunday 8th February. The chosen figure will then be unveiled to the public later this year. One lucky voter will stand the chance to meet their favourite icon at the unveiling ceremony. There will also be 40 Madame Tussauds Singapore and Images of Singapore LIVE combined tickets up for grabs, for ten voters. To get your chance to Win, do visit the Madamee Tussauds Facebook page :https://www.facebook.com/MadameTussaudsSingapore

Madame Tussauds is located on Sentosa Island, and visitors will need to enter the Island first to gain access to the Museum. Tickets can be purchased online on the Madame Tussauds website, where there are discounts for packages.
