Chengzhu Chinese Classes
Sponsored Review
Last week I had the chance to attend a Chinese Lesson conducted by Chengzhu Mandarin Centre. (Read about Nathan’s 1st day here)
Located at Rochester Mall, Chengzhu Mandarin Centre is Part of the Julia Gabriel family, and specializes in imparting mandarin to the next generation. As Nathan is attending the mandarin classes there, I wanted to find out how he was adapting to the curriculum, and whether he was enjoying it as well.
Here are some things that I liked about the Mandarin Classes:
1) Reinforcement of Materials Taught
As a silent observer, one of the things that I enjoyed about the ChengZhu Mandarin Class is the reinforcement of materials taught! Once the class started, the teacher used placards to remind the kids about the “New Words” which they learnt last week! ![]()
2) Low Teacher-Student Ratio
There were only the most 8 students for the morning class, and the class was conducted by a main teacher and an assistant teacher. With the low teacher-student ratio, it was easier for the teacher to focus on each student, and make sure that they were challenged and stimulated during the class.
3) Enthusiastic Teacher
Nathan’s teacher was definitely full of energy and enthusiasm when he played the game of a bus driver encountering differing road conditions. The kids definitely loved the energy and the “make-believe” game of traffic lights and oncoming traffic. As they say, teachers do make the difference! ![]()
4) Learning through play
Walking on an imaginary bridge, the kids had to recite out the new words which they learnt in the lesson covered. Through the use of the placards flashed again and again, the new words were slowly reinforced into the young minds.
Overall, the kids enjoyed themselves, and the teachers definitely made the class great fun!
Chinese enrichment classes have definitely come a long way, and no longer are they just boring “sit down” classes where you just go through worksheets. Learning a new language should be fun and engaging, and Chengzhu does deliver on that promise.
