Siam Society Food Review

Singaporeans love food, and especially Thai Food! Recently, we were invited to a Media Tasting dinner at Siam Society, and we fell in love with the affordable and tasty Thai Food found off the beaten track.

Situated in a housing estate not commonly associated with food, we were invited to this Authentic Thai Restaurant in the Serangoon area. The restaurant proved to be really bona fide as not only did the chefs hail from Thailand, but even the waiters that night as well.

We were there on a weekend, and it seems like this restaurant is not much of a secret, if you live in the Serangoon area. There were many families and friends gathered there for dinner, as well as a small queue waiting to be seated as well. Good thing, we had a reserved table, or else we would have to wait to be seated as well.

Although the owner was not around that night, we were blessed, as he had already pre-ordered the dishes for us. These are the dishes that he recommended for our family.

Salted egg with Cuttlefish

A Far from ordinary combination, but this dish scores high in terms of taste. Forget about the normal grilled squid, and give this dish a try.

Clear Tom Yum Seafood Soup
$10.90 (S)/ $16.90 (L)

This is always a choice dish for anyone visiting a Thai restaurant. I must say that the soup is really authentic, but unfortunately it was a tad too spicy for me. Being a lover of Tom Yum soup, I was drinking the soup and drowning myself with glasses of water at the same time. However, it was really tasty, and I would recommend you telling the kitchen to hold back on the spice, if you want to sample the dish.

Mango Salad

$9.90

Fresh and appertizing . This dish was a favorite with my wife, and it left her in great anticipation for the main dishes that were about to come.

Thai Style Morning Glory

$8.90

SImple vegetable but wonderfully done. Tasty and you would wish that you can bring out this simple dish at home too.

Prawn Cake Balls

$11.90 for 8 pieces

Delicious Prawn Balls which my kids devoured. The restaurant comes packed with many authentic sauces, so the adults loved this dish with the accompanying sauce.

chicken wings

Fried Chicken Skin & Grilled Pork Neck

These are both under the Staff Recommendations and proved to be delicious. This is definitely out of the Norm, when you go to a Thai Restaurant, both they are definitely worth ordering. My kids really loved the chicken skin and my youngest girl kept on devouring the deep friend chicken skin. The Pork Neck was tasty, but it was a bit dry for me.

sea bass

Steamed Sea Bass

$32

This is a favorite with my son and other fish lovers at the table. The sauce is sour and sweet at the same time, and the fish was fresh. We loved this dish, and the sea bass is one of the first items that you order when you are there.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Siam Society. The ambiance was relaxed and chill-out, and it’s definitely a place to go to hangout with family/friends over a yummy meal!
