Meeting our Neighbors!
This is it! With the invitations in our hands, we were ready to step out and knock on the doors of our neighbors! We have not really talked to our neighbors before, and we don’t really know what to expect, but we were determined to overcome our fears, and get to know our neighborhood. (Do read part 1 of our Kampong Spirit, to find out what we are doing).
Nothing in life could prepare us, for what was going to happen next.
As we knocked on our first door. my brave mother in law led the way! As we knocked on the door, we heard the shuffling of feet, and the door opened with a little creak. Through the half-opened crevice of the door openings, we gave the happiest and warmest HELLO that we could muster. Thankfully, the eyes our neighbor warmed up, as we explained to her about our Kampong Spirit project. As we informed her about our block party, the door opened up more (Sigh of relief), and she invited her father to welcome us at the door too. And Guess what! The family said Yes!
And from there, we proceeded to the next door, and her response was overwhelming! As she wanted company, she brought us around to ask her friends! Together, she led up us downstairs, introducing us to her friends which stayed around the neighborhood. From this one auntie, many other doors were opened to us, as she shouted out their names from the stairways and corridors. This breakthrough truly made our project much easier, as we seemed to have gained the unofficial endorsement of a very winsome neighbor. Through her, the news of our project spread like wildfire! Our party was gaining flight! 🙂
Our kids who were tagging along with us, witnessed our success, fell in love with the project even more. Soon, they were leading the way, and knocking on the doors before we instructed them to. By the end of the day, we had received many positive responses, and we are hoping that we will have a good crowd on the day of our block party!
This Saturday is going to be really interesting, and we are looking forward to know our neighbors! fingers crossed! 🙂
