W Hotel Singapore

Sentosa Cove smells of ambience and I was thrilled to bits when we heard that we had a Free Stay at the W Hotel at Sentosa Cove.

With so much hype surrounding the launch of W Hotel, we definitely looked forward to our stay at this glitzy establishment.

Here are some pictures of W hotel and what you can expect from the hotel grounds!

You will also be glad to know that the rooms are adequately spaced and well endowed. We got the basic room, but we were glad to find out that we were not stuck in a tiny little room. Unlike the Hotels in Europe, there was lots of room , and our 3 kids that tagged along, had lots of space to romp around.

Things we enjoyed about the room:

Besides the bathtub that overlooked the bedroom that came complete with a sliding window, the whole family enjoyed the view from the balcony. The picturesque view of the Sentosa Marina was beautiful, as this is a definite perk of staying in Sentosa Singapore.

And lets not forget the swimming pool as well! The best part about staying on the island is the laid back sun bathing lifestyle. As you can see, the landscaping is beautiful, and the kids enjoyed playing with the mini waterfalls and swimming beds. If you thinking of coming to the W Hotel Sentosa for your honeymoon, I am sure that you will not be disappointed!

One of the intimate details that W Hotel looked into is the “Charging Station”. Dubbed the “Sanctuary”, we found adaptors for every mobile phone known to man, and travellers need not worry about incidents where one forgets to bring along his/her mobile charger overseas. This was definitely a nice personal touch, considering that most hotels do not look into this detail!

Things we did not like about the room:

The Hotel has to get some simple things together! The  audio/visual  system kept on hanging whenever we changed channels. What’s worse was that the volume was like SCREAMING over the Bose Audio system, whenever we channel surfed. In fact, the whole audio/visual setup is a bit complicated, and we had to ask concierge to come up to assist us. Upon talking to the staff, we realized that this is quite a normal request from hotel guests…

Another simple thing that the Hotel seemed to have working against it, is “the door!” Yes! they have those electronic key systems, which did not work at least 3 times during our stay. These systems are not new, and they are a surprising problem for a 5 star hotel to have…

One thing about staying at W Hotel Sentosa is the distance from any transport. The drive out is also slowed down, due to the many speed cameras on the island. If you are thinking of hopping onto the subway to head towards town, you might be disappointed to realize that you are far away from any train. However, if you can afford to stay at the W Hotel, I am sure that you will have other means of transport besides the train.

But wait…before you dismiss the hotel…I have not told you yet…the Best part about W Hotel Singapore is Breakfast!

As breakfast seems to be a real plus at W Hotel, we went down at 930am, and the place was crawling with guests. The only thing was that this made it difficult to find seats, and the place was a bit crowded like a food court…the next table was definitely too close to us, as we could hear their whole conversation.

So what’s so special about breakfast?

It was definitely the variety and personal touch which W Hotel looked into!

For example, breakfast juices came in nice bottles that were ready to go! All you had to do, was to walk up to the juices counter, and pick up a bottle of your favourite juices fuss free!

If you are tired of the normal scrambled eggs or having them sunny-side up, you can ask the chef to whip up for you a Madeline. With Eggs and Bacon, this breakfast concoction is certainly out of the norm, as normal hotels don’t have this option! This extra touch certainly warmed a meat lover like myself.

Besides asking for your own special concoction, waiters will also come around and serve you toast on various spreads. We certainly enjoyed our toast with kaya and peanut utter, without the need to make them ourselves. I even experimented, as I tried making toast with salmon as well!

Another plus is that W Hotel Sentosa prepares breakfast cereal in nice containers! This is definitely a classy way to get your cereal!   Just pour in the ready-to-go milk into the containers, as you have your breakfast cereal in all the right proportions! Cool!

Overall, we had an enjoyable stay at the W Hotel. Besides the minor hiccups, the view and the atmosphere on the island is certainly relaxing. However, the hotel is not for the budget traveller, and families have to bear that in mind, when they book a stay at W Hotel.
