Star Cruise Virgo Review

Thinking about a Short Getaway? How about going for a holiday, where you can just sit back and relax? Yes! Without a need to plan for your next activity, nor worrying if there is any programme lined up for the kids. Well! If you are thinking along these lines, how about getting yourself onboard for the next  Cruise with Superstar Virgo.

Luxury Star Cruise

Imagine our excitement, when we were invited for a Sponsored Getaway together with Star Cruises. As a family, we have never been on a cruise before, and decked with 13 floors, this luxury liner offers not just fine dining, but entertainment for the whole family.

This Weekday Getaway was going to take us to the high seas from Singapore to Melaka and back again.  We were so excited, and the kids were full of energy, as they checked in to the Cruise Centre at Harbour Front. Check-in starts as early as 8pm, and do get there early, as the crowd can get quite sizeable. We got to our rooms by 10pm, and we were excited about our new adventures by the sea.

Just to give a bit of insight on the Dining Arrangements onboard a Cruise Ship: The Cruise package offers patrons the chance to eat at 3 restaurants totally Free! However, there are dining charges, if you eat at the other restaurants. The Good news is that all customers who stay in the Balcony rooms, all given dining credits, and one can still visit these restaurants selectively.

After dropping off our bags, we made our way to the Chinese Restaurant for some Dinner cum Supper. This was our First stop on our Cruise to Melaka!

Do make your reservations early for your meals, as the queues can get quite long. We saw lots of families sending “advance parties” to the restaurants, to make sure that the other members of the family did not have to deal with the queues. This is especially important if you have elderly family members travelling with you.

Every meal at the pre-selected restaurant, comes with a set meal. Passengers just need to get themselves seated, and the standard set meal will be served. Besides the set meal that was served, our supper on the first night, came with a Porridge Buffet. The kids enjoyed tucking themselves into some good Old fashioned Congee, before we set sail.

The Great thing about Cruises, is that they provide Entertainment. Therefore, just before we set sail at 2359 hrs, we were already at the theatre at 2315 for a Las Vegas Magic Show. Yes! This is the kind of Magic Show, where the illusionist has a lot of Props, and seems to make his assistant disappear effortlessly. On the 2nd night, we were entertained by a Circus cum Musical. This is like a mini Cirque, where they is singing, dancing and close up acrobatic displays for the passengers.

There always seems to be something to do on board, as through the shows, there was Entertainment for the whole family. For the more adventurous Parents or young couples, there were also “Adult shows”, that were literally there to “woo” the audience after Midnight. Like I said, there seems to be something for everyone! Smile

If you are not really into the shows, you could also move around to explore the luxury cruiser. Armed with 13 floors, there is certainly much of the ship, that you need to get used to, besides the high seas. I would strongly advise buying “Sea Sick” medicine before you get on board. For the weak hearted, you will be glad to know that the ship is definitely stable, and frankly you don’t really feel the waves. But after being on board for a few hours, you may suddenly feel that the floor is moving. So, I strongly advise a good dose of sea sick medicine, not just for the kids, but for the adults as well. After all, it will definitely be easier to enjoy your holiday, without any seasickness! Smile

Here are some views of the ship at night! There is certainly something breathtaking about taking in the sea breeze, and walking around the deck of the ship at night. Definitely therapeutic as one soaks in the sea breeze and as you feel your body clock slowing down. Aww…this is the life! Smile

Besides the Gym, heated pool and the library, one of the hottest rooms on board is of course the Casino and Mahjong Room. We have heard of friends that go on a cruise, and are never seen again. Well, there is a full-fledged Casino onboard, if you want to try your luck! And grandparents can slowly pass time with the One Armed Bandits or Mahjong Room.

Things to do on cruise

One of the things that we enjoyed most onboard was catching the Sunrise. This is one of the MUST DO things on your cruise. It’s such a hit, that your cruise program will inform you about the daily Sunrise and Sunset timings. We woke up early in the morning at 545am to catch this beautiful sight.

Such is the beauty of Mother Nature, you will need to be worry. even if you head up to the viewing deck alone. You will find that, there are many other people awake at this early hour, to catch the sunrise as well Smile

If you are wondering what the rest of the Dining areas look like. Watch out for the next few collages.

One of the fun things to do on the Cruise, is to have a go at the Water Slides. I went down the slide together with my youngest girl. We loved the transparent tube, in the midst of the slide, as it made u realize that you were 20 Storeys above the water, as you went through the tube. It was scary and breath-taking at the same time. Adults will like the tube, as if you lie down fully, you can actually pick up speed, and receive a “Big Splash” as you hit the bottom! Smile

Most Cruises offer the option of going ashore to stretch your legs. Our Cruise gave us the chance to spend the afternoon in Melaka. However, we decided to spend our time onboard instead.

Going for a luxury Cruise is definitely very different from a normal holiday in Hong Kong or Japan. I think that Cruises are great for extended families, as the mere convenience of everything within walking distance, makes it easy for the grandparents. The kids will also love the fact that their cousins make great playmates at anytime.

When we reached home, we immediately missed the cruise. It felt like we suddenly had nothing new to try!

To get the best deal for Cruises, do book early, and look out for the best deals. They are having a current promotion, where the 2nd adult/child only needs to pay $20! Smile
