Shangri-La Mactan Cebu
Thinking of a Beach Getaway? When people think about Beach Resorts, they think about Bali or the Maldives? However, there are places which are nearer to home, which are much more affordable than the Maldives! And guess what, it’s within South East Asia! Parents, if you are thinking about your next family holiday, how about considering the Philippines? Yes! Cebu island in the Philippines has a great resort to offer the whole family.
Frankly, before heading to Cebu, I have never heard much the island. When someone talks to me about the Philippines, I will only think of “Manila” or more recently “Boracay”. However, when I stepped into Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa, my heart and mind was opened up to a whole new world. In Singapore, when we think about beach resort, most of us will go to the Rasa Sentosa! Shangri-la’s beach resort on Sentosa. But the good news is that Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort is 10 times bigger than the one at Sentosa, and it offers much more fun as well! 🙂 My wife loves it so much, that she has 8 reasons why it is the perfect beach resort for the family! 🙂
The best way to get to Cebu, is to fly by SilkAir. With 11 flights between Cebu and Singapore, your family will get all the essential comforts, as they land on this beautiful island. Upon arriving at the airport, your Shangri-La is just 15 minutes away.
And this was the package that greeted us! We were booked into the Ocean Wing, which offered us a private balcony with a Jacuzzi. The room overlooked the swimming pools and the beach front, which consists of a marine sanctuary. I know…totally mind-blowing!
Check out the rooms that greeted us when we entered the resort! The rooms consisted of many family friendly “touches”. Equipped with children’s tooth brushes, diapers and cookies to welcome the kids, the kids felt right at home. Parents will be glad to know that there are no additional charges in these rooms for children, as the rooms are targeted for family of 4.
If you are wondering what you can do at this beach resort, you will love what you are going to hear! This is a Shangri-la with a Marine sanctuary that spans 6 hectares. Within this sanctuary, one can meet 160 species of fish, clams and corals. Just walk onto the beach and you are ready to explore a “whole new world!” Will totally elaborate on this in the upcoming post! 🙂
For diving enthusiasts, this hotel offers PADI-certified courses where divers can for Open water dives and other speciality courses. Even walking around hotel, we could see lots of scuba diving gear coming in from the piers. If you are not into diving, you can go jetsking, kayaking, parasailing, banana rides, water ski, wind surfing, catamaran sailing and the list goes on…And if you get tired of the beach, head to the swimming pools for some water slides!
And what if Junior is not into water sports, they can check out Adventure Zone! Shangri-la’s indoor playground, that kids will love. They have a similar one in Shangri-la Penang, and the one in Cebu offers the same kind of thrills!
Amazingly fun! 🙂 After our first day, we were already regretting that we did not bring the whole clan for this trip! Nadine was already having so much fun, and she would have loved it even more, if her 2 siblings were around.
Check out our next post, as we discover Snorkeling just outside our beach and Shangri-la’s only Marine Sanctuary, which gave the family a chance to build a Sea House.
