Regent Hotel Review (Giveaway)
The holidays are here, and maybe you just don’t have time or the resources to go overseas for a holiday. How about going for a staycation at one of Singapore’s luxury hotels? Recently, we had the privilege of enjoying a family staycation at the Regent Singapore. (Giveaway alert: Free Buffet at the end of the post!)
As one of the 4 Seasons Hotel in Singapore, the Regent sits on 1 Cuscaden Road, within walking distance of the Botanic Gardens and Orchard Road. Renowned for its restaurants and service standards, the whole family was looking forward to our weekend at the Regent.
We checked into the Regent Executive Suite, and loved the size of the room. Living up to its service quality, there were cookies, cake and a edible chocolate picture frame waiting for us! Nicole could not wait to savor the whole family on her own! 🙂
One of the best things about staying at the Regent is the food! This is the hotel that you will find Award Winning restaurants that will satisfy your sophisticated palette in the grandest way.
Before visiting the Sunday Brunch at the Basilico, every guest needs to have breakfast in their hotel. We have been to some hotels where the morning spread is ordinary, but the Regent offers a full breakfast spread that makes it worth your while, to wake up early. From the western breakfast to the traditional Chinese breakfast, there is something for everyone. We especially liked the grilled fish, that was a rarity on the breakfast menus.
Summer Palace is a Premier Chinese restaurant that offers Dim Sum and top notch Cantonese Cuisine. This Award Winning Restaurant has won numerous awards, including the “Singapore’s Best Restaurants of 2014” award. It has been a mainstay of the Chinese Community for more than a decade, and even older Singaporeans recognize the Summer Palace for quality Chinese food. If you have an important occasion to celebrate, this is the restaurant to bring your family and friends!
If you love Italian food, you would love the Basilico! This is the most decorated Italian restaurant on the shores of Singapore, and it is a MUST TRY for food connoisseurs.
Just check out the awards that the Basilico has won. For the 5th year running, Basilico has garnered the “Regional Best Restaurants of the Year” award from Asia Tatler Dining and inducted into its “Hall of Fame”. The restaurant has also obtained, the “Singapore’s Best Restaurants of 2014” award, as well as Wine & Dine Singapore “Singapore’s Top Restaurants 2014” award. Regent Singapore has also appeared on the prestigious Conde Nast Traveler Gold List no less than three times.
This is definitely a restaurant that takes pride in its food. Designed to transport your palates to Italy, the Antipasti selection at the Basilico is legendary, As one surveys the buffet table, you will find a beautiful selection of cold cuts, salads, cheeses, seafood, bread, olive oil and parma ham.
Besides having a head chef who is Italian, we counted at least 2 other staff who were fluent in Italian. Coupled with the Italian tourists that were visiting that day, we felt like we were in a “Godfather” movie, as we sat down for brunch. As we headed for the pizzas and spaghetti dishes, we must say that the chef does whip up great pizzas. Nicole loved the Lasagna, and she kept on going back for more.
The Sunday Brunch does not disappoint, as it offers a large variety of seafood like King Crab, lobsters, oysters and favorites like foie gras. One of the biggest offerings for the Sunday Brunch menu is the free flow pan-seared Foie Gras. It comes served with caramelized pears, and it kept me going back for more! 🙂 Definitely not fantastic for one’s diet, but hey! you don’t get to ear Foie Gras everyday!
There was also divinely made fresh Gnocchi that was made on the spot. I’ve tasted Bad gnocchi before when they are heavy, gummy, and stick to your teeth. But none of that here. Freshly boiled when you ask for it, these gnocchi were light and melted in the mouth. Delicious!
And I think this is the only buffet that you will find in Singapore, with it’s very own cheese room. A whole room of cheese that will make any “fromage” lover go crazy! If you are like me, and are only exposed to Kraft cheddar cheese slices, the room and smell of cheese will blow your mind away. The friendly chef was at hand to give us a mini cheese tutorial. “Take this with that”, or “Add a little of this when you take that and that”. The options were endless, there were so many different kinds of cheese I can’t recall what I tried. Some were a little too strong for my taste, some were out of this world, and some a little too mild. I’m quite sure there would be something to fit everyone in that entire selection.
For something more intimate and only for adults, you may bring your date or business friends to the Manhattan. This is a gourmet pasticceria offering premium Italian coffee, freshly baked Italian breads, cakes, artisanal pastries and paninis for a bite on the go.
