Mandarin Oriental Bangkok (Part 2)
Sponsored Review
Our recent trip to Thailand was memorable not just due to the sights and culture, but also due to our stay at the Mandarin Oriental. To check out some of the earlier highlights of our stay, check out Part 1 of our post on the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok.
Built in 1876, the Mandarin Oriental is the Oldest Hotel in Bangkok Thailand. The original building has been expanded to not just create more rooms, but also to provide modern amenities for the cosmopolitan and savvy business traveller. After all, this is one of the hotels in the World, that has a Louis Vuitton Outlet within its own shopping arcade (Definitely not a “safe place” to let the missus roam around with your credit card )
Besides the Family room that is ideally suited for young families, guests can also opt to stay at one of the famous speciality suites. Named after some of the famous celebrities who have stayed there a century ago, one can be brought back to the past, as guests relax in an ambience meticulously created for a bygone era. One such room, is the Joseph Conrad suite:
The suite comes with its own traditional bed, bathtub, and a good sized balcony that overlooks the river. Room is recommended for 3 persons and has a size of 1070 sqf. If you want a more modern feel, you can look at the Author’s suite. With a size of 985 sqf, and an Ariel view of the river, the Author’s suite gives guests a different perspective of one’s stay.
Besides the themed suites, the hotel boasts of 8 restaurants. This is a hotel where lots of locals come to celebrate their special moments and savour the colonial lifestyle of the 18th Century. One of the restaurants that offers this experience is Arthur’s Lounge. High Tea at the Arthur’s Lounge is accompanied by a classical guitarist, who plucks out relaxing tunes in the Colonial ambience of the lounge. The Arthur’s lounge is also the area where you can see the various hospitality awards which the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, has won through the years. With the Hotel’s emphasis on service, one can understand the avalanche of awards the Mandarin Oriental has won.
At nightfall, the Mandarin Oriental is transformed into a hub of food and entertainment. With the many restaurants, such as the traditional Thai “Sala Rim Naam” and the modern Italian “Ciao”, patrons are spoilt for choice.
We had the privilege of being invited to the “Riverside Terrace”, which offers International Seafood BBQ by the Chao Phraya River, which is also known as the River of Kings.
Check out the food that was on offering at the buffet. Thailand is certainly a place where you throw your dieting plans out of the window, as there is just so much to savour!
If you can’t make it for Dinner, you can also think about heading over to Lord Jim’s. This restuarant offers the talk-of-the town seafood lunch buffet, which will help you recuperate from your calories lost while shopping along the streets of Bangkok. For those who love something more avant garde, patrons can opt for French Food, which is located on the 5th floor of the Garden Wing is the Le Normandie. Besides the French gourmet, this 3 Star Michelin restaurant offers breath-taking panoramic views of the Chao Phraya River.
As the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok has a commanding view of the Chao Phraya River, Breakfast at the Mandarin is another classy affair. Get to start a lazy morning with relaxing views of the river, as you tuck in slowly into your sausages and eggs. With the scenic River life all around you, it is a wonderful way to start your morning in Bangkok.
Besides the Breakfast along the river experience, we also had the opportunity to have breakfast in our room. With many of the attractions 1 hour outside Bangkok, our trip to Safari World and the Floating Markets, meant that we needed to have a quick breakfast in our room. At no extra charge, your butler will set up your hotel family room into a breakfast table for the whole family.
Impressive ya! And everything was as appetizing as it looks! The kids loved the whole experience, and it also means that we can sleep in a bit later.
In summary, we have nothing but good things to say about the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok (Refer to Part 1 of our Review on the Mandarin Oriental, for more information). It is therefore to no surprise that the Mandarin Oriental continues to win many hospitality awards, and is continually rated as the No.1 Hotel in Trip Advisor by the many guests that visit the Hotel. If you are looking for a different experience, do check into the Mandarin Oriental for yourselves!
