Da Vinci Exhibiton (Giveaway)

One of the most talented individuals of our time has got to be Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo is renowned as one of the greatest painters of all time. Among his works, is the most famous Mona Lisa, where a replica can be seen at the exhibition. Other famous works include The Last Supper and The creation of Adam. Leonardo is revered also for his technological ingenuity. He conceptualized flying machines, and even planned a city. And all these concepts can be seen at the “Da Vinci: Shaping the Future” exhibition at the ArtScience Museum.

We were therefore excited to introduce the kids to this famous man, and hopefully some of his creativity and curiosity can rub off on the kids. Therefore, we ask the question…

Is the exhibition suitable for kids?

I think it helped tremendously that we had a guide with us, throughout the exhibition. I believe that most Parents will be like me. Our rudimentary knowledge of Da Vinci will NOT be able to bring out the best of the exhibition. There are just so many things to see, and the wealth of knowledge presented is overwhelming, even for a adult. However, the museum does try to make the exhibition interactive. but a guide to help the family is SUPER useful (Tours are complimentary, on a first come, first served basis).

Upon entering the Museum, one will be presented with the main time-line of events. Da Vinci was born out of wedlock and he was an uneducated man, as his mum was a peasant. Despite his poor education, he still rose to great heights, as he got his education in the studio of a Florentine Painter. One significant milestone, was that he took 10 years to complete the Mona Lisa.

Through the exhibition, visitors will take a journey through the work and legacy of the most celebrated artist and scientist of all time Leonardo da Vinci. Besides being a famous painter, he is also known to be a sculptor, architect, musician, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer. He also conceptualized flying machines, which is why the halls are filled with flying machines.

The main focus will be on the original masterpieces by da Vinci, which are in Southeast Asia  for the first time in Southeast Asia. The higlight of the exhibition will be the Codex Atlanticus, da Vinci’s largest notebook. Yes! the most prized possession of the genius before his death. Visitors will get to see the original notebook, where only a limited pieces can only be display each time, so as to preserve the notebook. This is the first time the Codex is seen in Souteast Asia, and a total of 13 original pages will be on display. In February 2015, these 13 pages will be replaced by 13 new pages from the Codex Atlanticus, providing visitors with the opportunity to experience 26 pages in total, over the lifespan of the exhibition.

An interesting note: In order to hide the secrets, the notebook is written inversely, where it can only be read, when you are assisted with a mirror.

Some interactive stations which the kids enjoyed was the architecture station. Da Vinci was a genius who knew how to build cities that were modern, and yet could help contain sicknesses. Kids can build their own cities and discover the advantages of building one near a river source, and having different levels.
