The Sound of Music Musical Review

Recently as I was teaching, I asked my class … Have any of you watched “The Sound of Music?”… Guess what… there were more Nays than Yays! In fact, only about 30% gave a Yay to the singing nun. I was shocked…This was my all-time favorite musical while growing up and I watched the VHS tape of “The Sound of Music” so many times that I think I wore out the tape.  Well! To redeem the times, the musical based on the famous movie is here at Marina Bay Sands and here is our “The Sound of Music” musical review!

The Sound of Music Musical

Most of us remember Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer in this iconic 1965 musical where the notes of Do-Rei-Mi just jumped off the screen. The movie was simply entertaining and this musical brings the same fun and showmanship to Marina Bay Sands.

If you have not watched the Classic Movie by Julie Andrews, I do recommend that you spend your time online to watch the movie for yourself. Making it’s debut in 1965, this movie continues to woo audiences of all ages and my kids love the show despite it’s age. Yes! The fans of this classic movie continues to increase and her status is strengthened after the  musical.

Thoughts on the Sound of Music Musical?

You can imagine the excitement in the family, when the kids found out that they were going to watch the musical.

With the evergreen classics in the movie brought to life, my whole family was simply entertained, as we watched the Von Trapp family belting out the famous tunes.  My personal favorite songs in the movie was Sixteen going on Seventeen together with Edelweiss and I was definitely not disappointed. The songs were sung on point, with the required emotions beautifully portrayed.  Best of all, every song in the musical was sung and there were many beaming faces in the audience at the end of the night.

If there is just one musical that the family can afford this year,it has got to be “The Sound of Music”.

Background of the Musical

THE SOUND OF MUSIC’S original score is a result of the genius output of composer Richard
Rodgers collaborating with the lyricist and librettist Oscar Hammerstein. The original 1959 Broadway production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and was Rogers and Hammerstein’s biggest success. The 1965 movie starring Julie Andrews as Maria won five Oscars, including Best Picture, and remains one of the most popular movies of all time.
