SG50 Buffet Promotions and Mooncakes

The upcoming Mooncake Festival and SG50 Celebrations promises a feast of celebrations for all patrons at the luxurious Conrad Hotel. Recently, we were invited to a special Mooncake cooking demonstration at the Conrad Hotel, where we sampled Mooncakes cooked by a famous Hong Kong Dim Sum Chef from Golden Peony. The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Mooncake Festival or Lantern Festival, is one of the most important festivals of the year for the Chinese peoples around the world, and dates back over 3,500 years. People celebrate by giving mooncakes filled with lotus paste and a salted egg yolk to their friends and neighbors, while children attend lantern parades holding colourful lanterns. The Traditional Mooncake is a much sought after delicacy in the Chinese Calendar, and we were glad to experience the festival at the Conrad Centennial Singapore, which is home to the award Winning Chinese Restaurant, Golden Peony.

At this visit to Conrad Hotel, we were introduced to Golden Peony’s process of making their signature Sweet Potato Mooncake in Crispy Filo Pastry. Made of crispy pastry with a filling of lightly whipped sweet potato, this delicacy was made in fine artisan precision, in front of our very eyes. 

As someone who has not made a single mooncake in his whole life, I watched in awe as the Masterchef from Hong Kong, produced mooncake after mooncake, without batting an eye-lid. With a simple squeeze and a fast tuck, each sweet potato was wrapped in dough with efficient precision. This is an art, that will obviously take hours or years for me to master!

And of course, the best part of the night was sampling these beauties fresh off the stove. Simply fresh, hot and delicious! 🙂

Naturally, Golden Peony also offers a wide variety of Mooncakes to satisfy the varied Chinese palate. Guests can expect the Traditional Baked Mooncakes, as well as popular mini Snowskin favourites such as Green Tea with Melon Seed, Mango with Nata de Coco, White Lotus with Cookies and Cream Cheese, and Chestnut with Red Bean.
