Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong

Media Invite

Hong Kong is one of the favourite travel destinations of all Singaporeans. With its many attractions and of course its fantastic food, many of us keep on coming back to the island. However, with the Mandarin Oriental, there are simply even more reasons to come back! Smile

Located in the heart of the city, and famous for being a business hotel, the Mandarin Oriental, has upped its ante, by extending its reputation for service to the whole family as well.

Being a guest at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong means that their warm hospitality starts the moment you land.  Waiting for us as we stepped off the plane, was a Hotel Staff. Yes! Not outside the arrival gates but inside the secured airport terminal. As he helped us with the bags, we were quickly escorted to the Limousine service provided by the Hotel. I felt like a high level diplomat, even though I was decked in my cheap Soccer Jersey! Smile

Upon reaching the Hotel, we were escorted to our rooms, and brought to our rooms for a personal check-in. My wife and myself loved this, as it meant we did not have to join a queue, or wait in an office to get the paper work done. All we needed to do, was to sign the check-in forms and focus on “winding- down” into holiday mood.

As Daddy was busy with the Paperwork, where were the kids?

Well, the Mandarin Oriental certainly does look into every single detail! To welcome the kids, there is a special Art and Craft Welcome pack, complete with Soft Toys to usher in the Chinese Year of the Horse.

And they did not forget the Parents! Coupled with the toys were home made chocolates by the Mandarin Cake Shop. We just could not stop eating, the moment we entered the room! Smile  Together with the welcome drinks and fun packs, the kids were thoroughly entertained, as they enjoyed themselves with the many activities provided for them. Truly a slice of heaven for all jet-lag parents! Smile

And talking about HEAVEN, let me give you a quick tour of our room:

The toilets came with the standard Bath-tub, which is a constant HIT with my kids and children’s toiletries as well. But the No.1 Hit with both Daddy and the Kids, is the Rotating TV Screen in our bathroom! We just loved it, as it just gave us a great sense of luxury, as you shower watching your favourite sitcom or cartoons! Smile

My kids really maximized the TV by spending a good half an hour in the bathtub as they watched their favourite cartoons. Obviously, the other TV addict in the house (Yours Truly) also enjoyed the TV, while he went for his morning…ahem…release! Smile

One of the great things about Mandarin Oriental is the attention they pay to DETAILS! When we needed to find a highlighter to mark our maps, or some other simple stationary, everything seemed to be at our drawers. Just check out the stationary sets found in every room.

The Details continued, as they also supplied us with a Refreshing Mist Spray. Guests who want to perk themselves up before leaving the room, could just cool themselves down with the portable Mist Spray. We also loved the attention paid to Privacy. To minimize disturbances to every guest, each room has a “Pigeon Hole” which only housekeeping could open. These Windows were just wide enough for staff to deposit our Newspapers or Mail, without disturbing the privacy of each guest. Together with the champagne they welcomed us with, we felt like we were on our Honeymoon! Smile

One of the Perks about staying in the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, is that you are surrounded by Michelin Star Restaurants. In total, there are 3 Michelin Star Restaurants within the 10 restaurants that you find on the premises.

Besides the famous restaurants for the discerning palate, we had a chance to savour Afternoon Tea at Cafe Causette. Before entering Cafe Causette, patrons should check out the Mandarin Cake Shop, just next to the Cafe. Renowned for its delicious cakes, chocolates and patisseries, one can only go “WoW”, when you feast your eyes on their 3D chocolate creations.  From  Butterflies, to a large chocolate cello, one can only gaze in amazement at the intricate creations by Chef Yves Mattey.

Besides the lovely pastries prepared by Chef Yves Mattey, we simply adored the scones that came with the Chef’s signature spreads. We could really enjoy our tea, as the Cafe Causette also filled the arms of the young ones with many activity books and puzzles. Once again, we could just sit back and talk, while the kids were kept occupied with their food and games! Smile

One of the most interesting outlets at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong is the Mandarin Barber! Yes! The traditional Shanghainese Barber is available at the Mandarin Oriental.

Barber lounge

The Mandarin Barber offers traditional shaving and hair services together with restorative grooming treatments for men. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and reminiscent of a private gentleman’s club. Clients are definitely from the High End Residents in Hong Kong.
