Inspirational People

I was not born in the 1960s, but growing up as a young boy. I was impacted by figures from that era. Inspirational people can be a source of inspiration and they can provide us with the vision and motivation to live beyond ourselves. Can they motivate us to dream?

Growing up, who can forget Walt Disney…who made “Now it’s time to say goodbye…” into a song. Nor can I forget Hollywood Icons like James Dean, who was plastered on my bedroom walls as a young teenager. I was inspired by stories of courage and bravado and motived by songs like “I wanna hold your hand” and “Hey Jude”.

These figures were the “Movers and Shakers” in a era, that left some form of imprint in my growing up years. However, the people who speak most to me are still around me and close to me. They are my family!

family first

We all have parents who are ordinary people. Parents who have their own quirks, but yet more importantly, they are parents who have paid the price. Parents who have hearts that have made unmerited sacrifices, and that have given us the platforms for the lives that we live today.

My parents grew up in the 60s. Their values, their dreams, their beliefs were all formed in their growing up years. The very thing that I love about them (my parents love dancing! my in laws sprout out spontaneous songs all the time) and their strong sense of being resilient all came from those Flower Power years.

My parents are my Heroes. They have made the sacrifices not just for me, but also for my family. Every day, I am glad to say that my wife and myself are blessed. We are fortunate to have Parents who love and support us. Our kids are blessed with Grandparents who love them and are willing to spend time to play with them.

They are truly the people from an era that played a significant role in my life not just in my growing up years, but the values of their legacy continue to play a role now. My greatest inspiration from the sixties are my parents.

In today’s society where marriage and children are delayed, or even frowned upon, we need more parents, who continue to pay that uncommon sacrifice. Parenting is certainly no laughing matter….It has its “Ups and Downs”, but it gives me something to look forward to as well.
