SEA Games Family Carnival

Advertorial

The SEA Games Carnival is in Town! WIth the June holidays moving into full swing, many families are looking for activities to occupy the whole tribe. There is great news for all of us! As part of the 28th SEA Games celebration, the Singapore Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee has put together a carnival that caters to the whole family. With this year being Singapore’s 50th Jubilee year, and 22 years since Singapore last hosted this regional  sporting event, this family carnival promises to be extra special! 🙂

We were invited to the SEA Games carnival over the weekend, and we were impressed by the many activities in store for the family. Best of all, everything is FREE! 🙂 Yes! No extra expense for the family! 🙂

The first thing to catch our eye, when we stepped into the carnival was the Hot Air Balloon. Being a rare sight in cosmopolitan Singapore, this is a “MUST DO” attraction. Although we were there on the first day of the carnival, we could see the crowds gathering to get their FREE ride on the balloon. Operation hours are from 7am-10am, and 5pm-8pm. Be go early, if you are planning to bring your kids for a ride!

As there are very limited seat, it is best to check out seagames2015.com for more details to avoid disappointment.

To add to the carnival mood, there will be stage acts,  song performances by artistes from the Song of the Games SEA Games artists and appearances by Team Singapore athletes. Be prepared to see stilt walkers, jugglers, magicians, balloon sculptures roving the carnival grounds. Besides engaging the street performers, my kids were also quick to “pen” messages to our athletes! As they wrote encouraging messages, they were quick to draw the Singapore flag next to their little quotes! Looks like Singaporeans young and old are “rooting” for Team Singapore to strike GOLD!

At the Carnival, every child will get a game pass. As the young participants go around to compete in the various stations, the kids will get a “chop” on their card. Complete the card, and participants will get a special SEA Games souvenir.

Here is a quick look at the many games available at the carnival. There are giant slides and inflatables, a rocky mountain for the adventure seeking kids, pool soccer for the football enthusiasts and 300 degree table tennis for the budding SEA Games athletes.

Something “out of the ordinary” to do with the family might be Zorb Bowling. Families will get into a transparent Zorb and roll with the zorb into the bowling pins. Looks like a strong family is  one that is able to roll together 🙂

Here are some of our favourite stations that we would line up for. Laser Tag is always such an expensive sport, but at this Carnival, it is totally FREE! Get your children into the all-action arena, and I am sure that you will see all their energy expended. Even though the kids have tried laser tag before, this game continues to be a hit with my family! 🙂

Nicole and Daddy tried their hands at the flying dunk! It might look simple, but I simply struggled to keep my balance as I was passed a ball to make a “slam dunk”. This is simply something that you don’t do everyday! 🙂

With eco-friendly transportation increasing in importance, one might be tempted to try out a ninebot for himself. Kids and adults can get to try these fun “sci-fi” transportation machines, which seem to be growing in influence in the last few years.

If your children love to compete, there is a special event for all the kids! 🙂

From 9-12 June, Children can join the  Fastest Boy/Girl Dash held at the National Stadium’s promenade!

There will be 4 categories (Ages 4 and below, 5-6yo, 7-9yo, 10-12yo), where kids can compete over 80m for the fastest timing for the day. One Winner will receive a prize while all participants will receive a special SEA Games souvenir.

And for the ultra adventurous and not afraid to get wet! How about trying “Walk on Water!”

Yes! it does not just happen in the Bible, but at the event, participants can walk on water! If you are wondering how it’s possible, the water is saturated with corn starch, creating a surface where the impossible becomes POSSIBLE!

This was certainly something different, and my whole family took off our shoes and got into the water tank! We were a bit apprehensive at first, but the water proved strong enough to take our weight. Do try it out for yourselves!

And lastly, after we got ALL our “chops”, we headed to the redemption booth to get our special limited edition souvenirs.
