Orchard Road Pedestrian Night

Advertorial

The Closure of Orchard Road on every first Saturday of each month is a monthly lifestyle event that offers fun for the whole family. Known as Pedestrian Night, the once busy Orchard Road, is closed to traffic, and is transformed into a playground for the whole family. Together with the malls closing later, this seems to be a magic formula, that will just keep everyone happy.

I remember experiencing the Orchard Road closures when I was just a teenager. The thought of having the whole Orchard Road closed, and furnished with music and stage performances, is always a big draw to everyone. Although the monthly road closure is not on the same scale (Road Closure runs from the Ion to Paragon), the freedom to walk along the streets is still a big drawing point! 🙂

Yes! One of the first things that we did, was to take a selfie near the Ion area, and we also got the kids to pose as well! 🙂 orchard road closed

An ongoing highlight along Orchard Road for the month of August, is that the Nation will be celebrating Singapore’s Pioneers, stories and National Milestones from 1965 to current day through the Pioneer Portraits Initiative. This initiative will feature stunning pieces of bespoke art by local talents from diverse creative disciplines and background.  With the various years printed on these art, we automatically headed for milestones that were significant for our family.

We headed for the Milestone years which were significant for our family. Obviously, we could not miss the years in which Daddy and Mummy were born! The kids loved the year 1987, as this was when the MRT first came into operation.  We made a game to search for important years, and the kids loved the “Treasure Hunt”.

To add to the excitement of the night, there were also Street Performances by Singers and Musicians.  With a stage just outside Paragon, there was ample space for us to just hang around and listen to some local acts.stage performances

There were also buskers along the streets, to add color to the whole atmosphere.  Together with the SG Historical Trail by Ecorider, there were many varied activities to keep us entertained. orchard road performances

Just when the kids were getting tired, Coke also made its appearance on the Streets. With special celebratory “SIngapore” cans given free to participants, the kids were perked up with their favorite beverage. This was an added elixir, which gave the kids an extra burst of energy for the night! 🙂

A highlight for Nathan was the vendors which provided free mobile gaming applications. As we explored the various shops, there was other freebies such as ice cream and ez-link cards.

And the favorite part of the night for Mummy, was when we walked towards Tangs!

Extending their operation hours till 11pm, patrons received Red Dot Specials at TANGS @ Tang Plaza where shoppers who are dressed in red or white  received up to 20% off participating brands. Other participating malls included Metro, Marks & Spencer and others. (Do look out for the month of September, to find out what new offers are in store.)
