Ip Man
Lately, the two latest most talked about movies are “IP MAN 2” and “Robin Hood”.
I had the luxury of watching both, the last couple of weeks, and both of them proved to be entertaining! (Of course, IP MAN 2 wins hands down compared to Robin Hood!).
But one thing I realized about both of the movies is this:
Both carry the same themes of Good vs Evil, and they both kind of turned out the way, you expected them to turn out…and more importantly…
Some actors play their roles so well, that we have a certain “fixed stereo-types” about our characters.
For example, Can you imagine anyone else besides Donnie Yen playing IP MAN?
This is what IP MAN should look like. Period!
When you watch the movie, you will get to see the trailer of another IP MAN movie played by another Hong Kong Actor….However, Donnie Yen has made the role HIS…such that nobody else can play the role!
It’s just like Jet Li and “Wong Fei Hong”! Nobody else can play the role, and when you look at Jet Li, that is the role that comes to mind.
It’s just like “Robin Hood”. We are used to a skinny, lean, Robin Hood….But now we have this stocky built Aussie bloke trying to play the legend…Just very hard to compute!
I for one, can’t imagine anyone else except Harrison Ford playing Indiana Jones…Can you imagine Jackie Chan or Denzel Washington playing it? None of them will do…except Mr. Ford.
I guess we humans don’t change much… and that’s why we would rather sit on the same seat every Sunday, take the same bus to work everyday, and eat at the same coffee shop regularly.
