Birthday Party at the Night Safari
BOO!!!
Yes! That’s Nicole! and fooling around at her recent visit to the Night Safari. At the recent invitation of Omy.sg and the Wildlife Reserve Singapore, we had the privilege to witness the Birthday Tea Party of Baby Elephant Nila Utama.
Nila is the 1st elephant to be born at the Singapore Zoo and is named after the Palembang prince who founded the kingdom of Singapura. On this special day, Nila received a giant birthday cake made with carrots, wheat and ice, among other ingredients. Check out the elephants attacking the Birthday Cake as tea was being served.
Through the celebration, we also found out some fun facts about the elephants. Asian elephants are listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and is protected from international trade by its listing on the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).
They are more endangered than their better recognised counterpart, the African elephants (Did not know that…thought that they were about the same..) Asian elephants are found in the forests of India, Sri Lanka, Laos, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia. These gentle giants survive on a diet of grass, leaves, bark, roots and fruits.
The kids enjoyed getting up close with the elephants and the night safari also looks so much different in the day…we had a really fun time! Also good to catch up with fellow bloggers like Alvin, Leonny and Maryann on the trip there!
Nathan enjoyed the trip especially, as they served peanuts and potato chips on the tram ride to the exhibits.
The Zoo has a little Nila…I have a Little Nathan who is just as hungry
