Active Aging Carnival
This week, at the invitation of my friends from Ogilvy, I attended the Active Aging Carnival organized by the Council of the 3rd Age at Suntec City.
If you think that a carnival for seniors will be boring, with a slow waltz playing in the background, I was pleasantly surprised by the energy of the afternoon crowd at Suntec.
There were lots of interesting booths which highlighted the many activities that seniors could participate in. There were Ukulele classes, artwork for seniors, boxing and even kinect games on the xbox360.
For those seniors who wanted to test their coordination, there was even a low level obstacle course to challenge ones’ agility.
One of the most popular activities among the seniors seems to be line dancing. And these hip-hop cowboys seem to be really enjoying every minute of it!
They did not just dance, but they went through their steps, with their “He-Haas” and other echos in unison! These seniors are definitely practicing Active Aging, and they seem to be enjoying their lives to the fullest.
With more and more of our baby boomers reaching their golden age, the carnival is certainly enriching! Our Golden years should not be a season of our life, where we just sit around the house and watch Korean Dramas. Instead, it should be an enriching season, where we take the time to slowly savour the activities that we enjoy the most!
Grandma and Grandpa were there to sample the buffet of activities for themselves. I am sure that they went home with some fresh new ideas!
It is also nice to know that when I retire, I will definitely not be bored! 🙂
