Shangri-La Kowloon Hong Kong

Awarded the 2014 Traveller’s Choice Award by Trip Advisor, the Shangri-La Kowloon is an excellent choice for luxury travellers to Hong Kong.  Located just next to the MTR Station and positioned in the famous shopping district of Tsim Sha Tsui East, the Shangri-La Kowloon offers the Best of Hong Kong at your doorstep.

The Shangri-La Kowloon is the older sister of the other Shangri-La (Island Shangri-la) in Hong Kong. Built on the other side of Hong Kong, the views from Shangri-La Kowloon are actually more picturesque than those found on Hong Kong Island. Despite her age, expect Shangri-la’s legendary finesse and decor, as you step in this luxurious 5 star Hotel.

As we walked into the lobby, we were welcomed with a 5 Star reception area filled with chandeliers and paintings. As we explored the lobby, we realized that the lobby lounge was buzzing with activity, as they were serving  High Tea Buffet. I think I can definitely relax with all my favourite foods at the buffet!

We checked into our room next! The good thing about every Shangri-La is that they have Big rooms, which gives the whole family plenty of space. With 3 kids who are always high on energy, our connecting room made the whole experience even “Sweeter”!

Being located at the harbour area and being on a high floor, the Shangri-La rooms provide panoramic views of the harbour. It is therefore not surprising that the rooms come equipped with binoculars which the kids thoroughly enjoyed. As usual, Nathan gave his loud battle cry, claiming that he could see China, as he looked through the Binoculars

During our stay at the Shangri-la, we noticed many locals who come to the hotel not just for dining with their friends, but also to celebrate important occasions. Shang Palace is a 2 Star Michelin Restaurant that offers Premium Cantonese Cuisine. Helmed by Chef Mok Kit Keung, he has won many awards such as the Gold Medal Award in Chinese Cuisine by the Restaurant Association of Singapore in 2001 and 2004, and the Gold Medal Award in the Food Hotel Asia 2008 Imperial Challenge. Chef Mok has also prepared meals for King Mohammed VI of Morocco, the President of Russia and many other prominent dignitaries and celebrities from around the globe. His accolades already tell you that this is a MUST TRY restaurant, when you are in Hong Kong.

During our stay in Shangri-la Kowloon, we also witnessed a wedding Dinner by the locals. With the luxurious Grand Ballroom, the Bride and Groom really did up the reception area, making it an even more memorable event. With the beautiful ballroom, this hotel is fantastic for Special Occasions.

Although we only had a brief stay in Shangri-La Kowloon, we managed to try out their service, as we had to leave early the next morning. Our flight was at 7am, and we had to leave the hotel by 5am. Besides the wake up call which the Hotel gave us, we were greeted with Morning Tea and Breakfast packs, as we woke up the next morning. This was a nice touch, considering the fact that we had no time to go down for breakfast.

We left the hotel feeling rather sad. We all didn’t want to leave! After all, it marked the end of our holiday, and it also meant leaving the beautiful paradise that Shangri-la created.
