Kids Quest Day Camp

Wondering how to occupy the kids during the school holidays? How about giving them an experience of a lifetime? The RWS Kids Quest Day camp promises to deliver an adventure which the kids will never forget. Imagine Dolphins, Mantra Rays, Sea Jellies and a Universal Studios Scavenger hunt! Doesn’t this sound like a amazing adventure for the kids! 🙂

The Resort World Sentosa Kids Quest Day Camp is a 3 day (non residential) camp, where the kids will get to enjoy the many attractions at Resort World Sentosa during their school holidays. Yes! It will be absolutely fun for the kids, and parents will also be able to put the kids in a fun learning environment, where they get a first hand experience with many sea creatures.

At the camp, kids will get to:

  • Ride The Movies and go on a thrilling scavenger hunt at Universal Studios Singapore.
  • Learn how to be an aquarist at S.E.A. Aquarium.
  • Understand what it takes to be a dolphin trainer at Dolphin Island.
  • Go behind the scenes and experience how to care for marine animals from baby sea jellies to dolphins.

The Experience sounds too good to be true, and we were so glad to be invited for this media review! 🙂

First off, we headed to Dolphin Island for a once in a lifetime experience. We had a chance to interact and get up close to the beautiful Mammals. To get the kids used to these intelligent creatures, the kids first got into a transparent Kayak. transparent kayak

Paddling across the pools, the gets get to watch and observe the graceful dolphins making their laps around the pool.  Nicole was fascinated about watching them in action, and that is why she keeps on looking down into the water! 🙂

Interaction was brought to the next level after the kayak. Our trainer brought us up close and personal with the Dolphins. We witnessed her feeding the dolphins, and as the kids gained courage, they were allowed to touch the dolphins for themselves.

The trainer demonstrated how friendly the dolphins were, as they were quick to obey her whistle and commands. The kids were taught how to be a “Trainer for a day”, and they learnt simple commands! Getting to dolphins to spin around, or to dive and do a somersault, are all part of a trainers day.  Here is a quick pictorial look at our day with the dolphins! dolphin 1

The kids just loved the experience of having the dolphins kiss them! Naturally, they were a little afraid at first, but they quickly “warmed up”to our friends! 🙂

Being a trainer also means that one gets to learn intimate knowledge about the dolphins. For example, I learnt that a pregnant dolphin carries her young for up to 12 months, and she gives birth to a live baby, similar to us humans. Female dolphins will then breast feed their babies, and look after them.

Dolphins also vary in their learning ability. Learning to follow the trainers’ instructions can vary in learning time. One can take a few hours for the simple tricks, and up to 6 months, to perform a somersault at a trainers’ command.  They are also recognizable by their dorsal fins which are unique to each dolphin.

I was the designated camera man for the kids on that day, but I could just sense the excitement in the kids, as they enjoyed their dolphin discovery program. This is certainly a “fishy encounter” that your kids would love this December holidays.

The best thing about the 3 day camp, is that the children’s learned discovery does not stop there. Next, we hopped on over to “Mantra Ray”and we had a quick “teaser”on what the children would do on the Kids Quest day Camp. Besides finding out more about the lives of the Mantra Ray, they would also have the chance to feed the Mantra Rays.

Our previous encounter with the Rays, were only in the aquarium, where we saw them swimming around. Feeding the Rays were a totally foreign experience, and although the kids kids were a bit apprehensive at first, they were more than willing to step up to the plate!

Our Sea Journey continued with us experiencing the life of an Aquarist at the S.E.A Aquarium. If your child loves the sea, they will to fall in love with the VIP tour of the “backrooms” at the South East Asia Aquarium. Home to at least 5000 fishes and sea creatures, one gets to witness what goes on behind the scenes at this famous aquarium. It was interesting to find out how the Aquarium nurtures and multiplies the jelly fish population, and how they feed the fishes and care for them. The whole journey was definitely enriching, as we witnessed their routines and even the food preparation for the fishes,  (Unfortunately, the backrooms are a secure area, and we were not allowed to take any pictures.)

And lastly, every kid will enjoy his final day at the 3 day Resort World Camp. There is a scavenger camp where one discovers the intimate details of Universal Studios, and most importantly, enjoy the rides as well. I think most children will enjoy this part of the journey, as Universal Studios is always guaranteed fun for all ages! Best of all, the VIP guides will be with them, and it means that there is no time wasted in queuing for rides, as one gets quick access to all the attractions at Universal Studios Singapore.

If you are interested to join the 3 Day Kids Camp, the adventure will be held from 25-27 Nov 2015. (Note: this is a not a Stay-in camp, as kids will go home at the end of the day).
