Halloween at Universal Studios
The Month of October promises to be a spooky one for terror seekers, as the Island of Sentosa is becoming a sanctuary for Halloween. This year, Halloween Horror Nights 4, promises to be even more scary than ever before! With 4 Haunted Houses and 4 Scare Zone, your adventure into Universal Studios, will get your date holding onto you for dear life. (Well…this is what they promise anyway)
Did the wife and kids make it for the Halloween event at Universal Studios?…Thankfully, I left them at home, and I went with some of my friends instead. It proved to be a good decision,as without them, I had the freedom to fully explore the theme park.
Personally, the best thing about Halloween Horror Nights, is that this is a professional horror event. No money has been saved to make the ghouls and monsters, as real as possible. With such a mega budget allocated, I don’t think any other production in Singapore can come close to what you can experience at Universal Studios.
This was the first creature to greet us, when we entered the park! He was the calling card photo booth for all visitors to the park.
If you are wondering whether the rides are open at night. You will be glad to know that some of the rides are still operational. Roller-coasters like “Mummy’s Revenge” and other favorites like “Transformers”, are still able to offer the spills and thrills that crowds expect when they enter the park.
The park will open till 130am, but it’s not late enough, especially when the queues are super long. However, here are a few quick tips to help you maximize your night at Universal Studios:
Tips to Survive Halloween Night
1. Be early! The park opens at 730pm, and there are lots to cover in 1 night.
2. Expect to Queue: Lots of time are spent in the queues, so expect to spend as long as 90 mins queuing for some attractions.
3. Make sure you are well-hydrated: Drinks in the park are not cheap, so bring your own H2O. Or else, be prepared to spend money on this.
4.Go for the Shows! The shows are the big “Extras” at Universal Studios. I found the Circus Performance called “Jack’s Nightmare Circus” entertaining and together with an air-conditioned theatre, it offers a great “escape” from the hot humid nights. We did not manage to catch the other show titled “Demoncracy”, as we were busy queuing but we caught a little glimpse of the acrobatics involved, and it looks impressive.
5. Scare Zone Vs Haunted Houses: The Scare Zones are the ones which can be covered quickly and they are not as scary as the haunted houses. Although the Haunted houses offer more spooky adventures, they are the venues which will also have the longest queuing time.
6. How to make it more scary for yourself?
Everyone is herded into the haunted houses in groups. If you want to make it more scary for your date, break contact with the main group, and go through the haunted house by yourself or with your date. The props used in the terror houses are very realistic, and you will be definitely surprised by what you see in the theme park.
7. Which is the best haunted house?
I liked Jack’s 3-Dementia best! This is Singapore’s first 3D Haunted house. You enter the house wearing the 3D glasses, and everything just POPs up as you enter the house. All I can say is that, the 3D glasses, bring the whole haunted experience to a new dimension. The most scary part is right at the end. We had to cross a bridge, surrounded with moving lights. Walking halfway across the bridge, one feels like the whole bridge is moving. Really cool! 🙂
Here is a picture of another haunted house called “The Lab”. We had to wait 90 min, before we could see this one.
8. Stay till the very end! By then, the queue times are only about 5 mins! We managed to make up for lost time right at the end, and with the luxury of an emptier theme park, we managed to catch all the attractions.
Halloween Haunted Nights 4 is only available on Friday and Saturday nights, so effectively it is only on weekends. Do visit their website for promotions, and prices can go as low as $50 per ticket, depending on the offers available.
Here are the dates for the last few remaining nights: Oct 17-18, 22-25, 31 and Nov 1. (TIme 730pm – 130am)
