Become A Doctor for a Day
The next 3 weekends are going to be exciting one for kids between the ages 5-12yo!
It is every Parent’s Dream to have one of their young ones become a Doctor, and what better way for you to plant this idea, then by making them a “Doctor for a Day!”
Just this week, we were hosted by Mount Elizabeth Novena, for their inaugural event “Experience Day”. At this event, Kids will get to experience what doctors and nurses do everyday, as they undergo an experiential program as a healthcare professional. Yes! They will get to experience being “A Doctor for a day!”
This is “Musak Musak” at the highest level, as the kids will love the chance to role play the character of a Doctor, Nurse of a patient. My kids obviously loved it, as they kept on “Yakking and Yakking” the moment they entered the hospital.
Sessions will be starting this Saturday from 11am to 530pm, and with mock up operating theatres and instruments for the kids to handle, this will be a “Once in a lifetime experience” for most kids! I definitely wish I could do this when I was a young boy!
Through the whole experience, the kids will journey through 6 Hospital Settings:
1) Operating Theatre – where they will learn to conduct a surgery
2) Nursing Room – Bathe, Clean and Diaper a Baby
3) A&E – Simple First Aid for cuts and bruises
4) GP Clinic – Learn to use a stethoscope and thermometer
5) Anatomy Class – Learn about their Organs
6) Pharmacy – Bring home a lovely memento from the experience.
Besides the Operating theatre, a key highlight for the kids was the Nursing Room. They seemed to love changing diapers and feeding the baby dolls! My Nathan seemed to be in need of some extra training, as I heard the baby’s head “knocking” against the Baby’s cot a few times. I think he might have killed his patient a few times at the media preview!
Through roleplaying and under the watchful eye of the professionals, the kids will also get to pick up health care tips. Some useful lessons picked up along the way will be how to wash their hands, and also the dangers of smoking!
At the last station, kids will get to take a graduation class photo together, and receive a certificate, to celebrate the completion of their play date! Isn’t that so absolutely cool!
If you are heading down to the hospital this Saturday, Mount Elizabeth Novena will also be hosting health seminars and health screenings, together with the children activities. The Heath Carnival or Funival is FREE but the Health Seminars are at $10 per pax, (All proceeds from these events will go to Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society).
“Doctor for a Day” will be running for another 3 Saturdays during the month of August. Do visit their website for more information on the event, or to register for the health seminars.
(As of press time, all slots for Doctor for a Day have been taken up, but there may still be slots, only if there is a “No-show” by registrants. Do go early to avoid disappointment).
