As with any CNY Dinner, we started with Ah Hoi’s signature Yu Sheng. Specially crafted from a family recipe handed down to Ah Hoi’s Chef Lam by his mother. Unlike most traditional Yu Sheng ingredients, Ah Hoi’s version consists of both sweet, sour and savory combinations. Complete with Salmon (A safe fish during this period), the kids were quick to raise their vegetables high, and enjoy their fresh Chinese Salad, to usher in the New Year.
We must say, that the highlights for us were the sea bass and the champagne Pork Ribs. The Fish was fresh and juicy smooth, with the pork ribs being nicely sauteed. Although I would have preferred the ribs to be softer, the taste of the ribs was appetizing and with the sweet champagne taste added to boost the dish. The kids loved the noodles while my wife liked the Fried Nian Guo, which is hard to come by, on most menus.
In terms of value for money, portions were good! Meant to feed 4 persons, Ah Hoi’s kitchen is generous with their servings, and one will definitely not go hungry, when one sits down for this 8 for $88 meal.
Ah Hoi’s Kitchen is also known for their Chili and Black Pepper Crabs. I sampled the Black Pepper crabs on this invite. The sauce was rich, and more importantly, the crabs were meaty. One does get value with your order, as the crabs are not skinny, and the value per crab does go far! 🙂
If you are thinking of bringing your family out, and the normal zi-char will not suffice, Ah Hoi’s kitchen might be a good choice. With good hotel quality service and a cost conscious menu, this al-fresco kitchen, might just be worth exploring! 🙂
Besides the 8 courses for $88 for 4 people, Ah Hoi’s kitchen has got other budget offerings. Do check out their 12 dishes for $12 lunch menu, and there is also a Prosperity Festive Set Dinner ($488 nett for 6-8 people).
