Our Grandfather Lee Dai Soh

Just recently, we were invited to the Singapore Arts House to witness the launch of Project Lee Dai Soh. For the uninitiated, Lee Dai Soh  (1913-1989)was a Cantonese Storyteller, who brought entertainment to the nation with his talent of narrating stories. Playing a big part in Singapore culture, he is widely recognized as a Legend in Singapore’s cultural History.

Yes! this is how I remembered Lee Dai Soh. Grandfather was not too tall, always smiling, and with a famous show-tune that was always playing on Redifussion. Remembered as one of Singapore’s icons, we were happy to see more of him at a family oriented exhibition at the Arts House. Co-organised by students from Ngee Ann Poly, the exhibition aims to provide opportunities for intergenerational bonding, where children can learn through play.

I did not really get to spend much time with him while growing up, but I was glad that I had a chance to introduce the great grandchildren to him in pictures and stories. Through the many exhibits, my kids were also able to hear their Great Grandfather’s voice for the very first time. Definitely a great way to reconnect back with their roots.

And their interaction with their Great Grandfather did not stop there! The school actually designed an App based on Lee Dai Soh’s life story. How cool is that! Smile I certainly don’t know of many people who have an app designed after them! The kids certainly enjoyed themselves exploring the interactive game at the exhibition.

It was certainly an interesting exhibition, as we had so much to find out about our famous grandfather.

The exhibition is still running at the Art House till 13 March 2014, and admission is Free.
