A Tablet built for kids!
Are your kids addicted to their tablets?
This is one of the most pressing questions that every Singaporean parent faces, and I think that it is interesting to note that Steve Jobs, the creator of Apple, limits the screen time that his kids have with technology. No one wants their kids addicted to a tablet or a pc, and missing out on the important things in life. However, no modern parent would also ban technology from their household. Technology has been knitted into the fabric of our society, and the key to successful parenting is rather how we can maximize technology and use it to assist in our children’s development.
As a developer that thinks for the family, Samsung KidsTime may just be the application that your family needs!
We were just introduced to Samsung’s latest educational application, and the kids and myself were excited about what we found out!
With a library of over 80 applications and ebooks, Samsung KidsTime has a host of games and e-books to engage any child. The monthly refresh of new content ensures the kids will never get bored with it. Well, I can tell you that my kids are really enthusiastic about their latest app. As a parent, the benefits of Samsung KidsTime are also becoming very apparent. As I only allow the kids to play with the tablet on weekends, I have begun to see the benefits of the controls found in the application. Here are a few of our discoveries!
Firstly, with Samsung KidsTime, we will always know when we have reached our limits with our tablets! Before the start of every mission, the application will prompt you to set the time limit for your children’s usage. This helps to limit screen time, as the KidsTime application will come to a halt when we have hit our 15 min limit. This feature therefore reminds me to get the kids to turn their attention to another activity, so as to ensure that the kids don’t get too much “screen time”.
Secondly, I feel at ease to know that the kids are not accidentally downloading questionable material onto the device. First off, they can’t download anything without Daddy’s permission, as a password is required. This means that Daddy will not be spending any money on new applications without his knowledge. Games and e-books within Samsung KidsTime marketplace have also been curated by child experts, making it a safe marketplace. This gives parents peace of mind. Furthermore, the application does not have any distracting advertisements nor any unwanted “pop-ups!” coming up. Yes! Nothing “funny” comes up, when you are in Samsung KidsTime.
Thirdly, I love the e-books! The animation and twists to each story crack me up, and I love reading the e-books together with my young ones. Their favourites include “Mr Elephant and Mr Mouse”, “3 Little Pigs” and “Chicken Little”. These are evergreen titles and the kids just love the fun sounds and animations that come with every story.
Fourthly, the parent’s module allows me to monitor what the kids have been up to. Even if I get busy, and give the kids some “alone time” with the tablet, I can still find out what the kids have been up to. Looking at the Dashboard, I can understand their behavioural patterns and discover their areas of weaknesses. Whether it is Math, Science, Reading, Social Studies, Language, Arts or creativity, Samsung KidsTime will be able to recommend a game or book to target those areas.
One of the favourite games which my kids like to play is “Big Kid Life: Firefighter”
Nathan loves it, as besides moving around and putting out the fires, kids are given tasks as well. Tasks include looking for objects such as rectangles, objects with wheels, numbers, and the list goes on. Therefore, it is not just about moving around in a maze, but kids are expected to identify and problem-solve at the same time. And this is just one of the many games and e-books found in Samsung KidsTime.
Overall, Samsung KidsTime has allowed me to spend time together with the kids, as not only are we discovering new things together, but we are also reading together. The kids have also taught me the tricks to their favourite games, and Daddy has been busy challenging them, to see who can emerge as the champion of the house.
