Every 1st week of the month, there is an Orchard Road Closure, allowing our famous shopping belt to come into new levels of interaction with tourist and locals alike! Christmas season is a great time to walk down the streets, as the Christmas decorations are at their best, and with the Orchard Road Closure, everyone is able to take their favorite photos without any distractions. 

We have been shopping along Orchard Road the last few weeks, and the roads around the shopping malls have been packed! Needless to say, we were delighted with the Road Closure, as it means that our kids can roam the streets freely, without the need to worry about traffic and cars.

Naturally, an Orchard Road closure will NOT be complete without any activities for the family. As every road closure brings with it a different twist, you will never know what to expect, in the upcoming closures in January and February.  For the month of December, we were once again greeted by the Eco-riders.  These famous eco-friendly devices are becoming a common sight, and if you want your kids to experience one first-hand, these eco-riders are available for rent. 

To add to the festivities, Vintage Cars made their appearance for the December Orchard Road Closure. Decked in Red and Green Christmas decorations,  the kids were quick to pick up a Vintage Volkswagen Van and get their photos taken with it. To add to the Christmas cheer, families can get their photos taken with Santa Claus, with the special Orchard Road Backdrops and watch special performances as well. this definitely does wonders to build the Christmas atmosphere!

With the opening up of Street Culture and allowing more foreigners to busker, there were many more street performers who were ready to entertain the packed audience. It was a huge melting pot of talents as we walked down the road. Together with the Christmas carolers belting up the famous Christmas tunes, there was such a Merry atmosphere along Orchard Road.

Just when you think that the kids are getting bored, we discover that there is Free Ice Cream for kids when you download the Orchard Road Application, and Free Movie tickets for the adults. Together with the Free Coke and other beverages along the way, there seemed to be enough refreshments to keep the kids going! 🙂

Another booth which captivated the family’s attention, was the Coke Booth! Promoting a healthy life-style, the kids and family were quick to play the simple physical games, which were promoted. These simple games were stuff Grandpa and Grandma were familiar with too. We had great fun challenging each other! (and doing it smack on Orchard Road makes it more fun!)

And of course the Best part of the night, was just the simple opportunity to take photos along Orchard Road. Families did not need any invitation, as they were quick to pose for their favorite shots, with the beautiful Xmas Decorations in the background.

And if you are wondering, the Orchard Road Closure is a Free event, and there will be upcoming closures on the 1st week of January and February. This will be something different to experience with the kid! 🙂
