British Council Pre-School
When I was in my teens, I remember making a weekly pilgrimage to the British Council to improve my language skills for my upcoming ‘O’ Levels. The classes were great fun, as they were different from the normal classes, and I got to meet girls from other schools at the same time.
However, times are changing, and the British council does not just cater to teenagers anymore. Introducing the British Council Pre-school!
This brand new Pre-school is located at the Tampines Concourse which is less than 10min away from the bustling Tampines MRT and Bus stations. Located just next to the housing estate, this is a Pre-school ideally situated for Parents who stay and work in the East.
Just recently, I paid a visit to the British Council and I got to see first-hand the whole British Council Pre-school setup. Delivering an ethos where kids are helped to fulfill his or her true potential through a safe and healthy learning environment. With its spacious facilities and experienced teachers, this brand new Pre-school looks more than able to fulfill its mission.
Embedded within its daily curriculum, the British Council Pre-school will introduce a multi-sensory programme, complete with hands on activities and games. To further enrich the whole Pre-school experience, kids will be exposed to Speech and Drama, Art and Music and movement. As Singapore has a strong emphasis on bilingualism, there will be Chinese Language Classes which offer activities to prepare the kids for Primary School too.
One of the things that I look out for when visiting a Pre-school, is whether the kids are having fun. Judging from the classroom interaction and the time in the playground, the kids seemed to be enjoying themselves tremendously. The kids were celebrating “Racial Harmony Day” when I visited the centre, and they looked simply adorable in their national costumes.
As you can see, the student population consists of locals and foreigners. Students will therefore be exposed to different nationalities and cultures from their interaction with their friends.
As I talked to teachers, it was heartening to find out that they were experienced teachers from other well-established Pre-schools in Singapore. Besides being well-versed in the Singapore Kindergarten Curriculum Framework (KCF), they are also specialists in the United Kingdom’s Early Years Foundation Years (EYFS) system. Together with the stable of qualified teachers that British Council has within their ranks, the students will be exposed to various teaching styles and methods. I think this is a real “plus point” for the center, as Junior will get to experience the other strengths of the British Council within school hours.
One of the concerns that Parents have, when they visit a Pre-school is the Teacher-Student Ratio. With a school regulation of 1:7 (Nursery) and 1:8 (Kindergarten), each child is given the best possible care and attention. Together with the large classroom facilities, the kids have plenty of room to express themselves, and just be themselves!
Don’t just take my word for it, but do go down to the British Council Pre-school to check them out for yourselves. To arrange a visit to the school, visit this link for the British Council Pre-school.
Classes are now available for kids starting from 4 years onwards.
