Situated just next to the Hill Street Fire Station and the Singapore Philatelic Museum, the Lewin Terrace is housed in a special Black and White Bungalow, which brings with it much history. As the former residence of the Chief of the Central Fire Station, the Bungalow is a symbol of our former Colonial past and brings patrons into a piece of Singapore History as they dine on the Veranda and rooms of the former Residences.
Walking up the old steps of the historic staircases, one is welcomed by an opulent bungalow, which will serve as a great backdrop for any special occasion. We loved the walk up, amidst the greenery. It really felt like we were walking away from the busy city life, into a cosy, serene and natural setting.
Once entering the reception area of Lewin Terrace, we were greeted by our friendly Captain who was efficient in guiding us to our seats and showing us around the restaurant. Able to accommodate up to 82 guests, Lewin Terrace offers organizers the ability to book out the whole restaurant and host private parties, to bring out the essence of their events.
How is the Food at Lewin Terrace
Helmed by Executive Chef KEISUKE MATSUMOTO, this Award Winning Colonial Heritage Restaurant offers fine dining with a strong emphasis on quality. The myth is true. Japanese chefs are big on quality ingredients and this restaurant continues to live up to that reputation.
Starting off with the bread, all of us were enthralled with the soft and luscious bread, that was presented to open up our appetites. It was freshly home baked, and when served with the in-house butter, the bread tasted exceptionally good!
You can tell the Ed Unloaded kids thoroughly enjoyed their dining experience, as they were beaming from ear to ear, as they laid their eyes on their favorite pasta and desserts!
Lewin Terrace: Kids Menu
Kids can join their parents at Lewin Terrace during the weekends from June to August (Available on Sat and Sun), as there is a special offering of a 3-course lunch menu priced at an affordable $20++.
Kicking off with a soup, and a choice of Chicken, Fish or Pasta, the Kids Set lunch comes complete with a dessert and a juice or soft drink. As the Children have a great fondness for Pasta, all 3 of them ordered the Pasta for lunch. Naturally, the kids all gave a big thumbs up to the chef, for the wonderfully prepared Pasta.
And the good news is that the although the kid’s meal differs in dishes, the ingredients come with the same fresh goodness, that is served to the Adults! 🙂 A big Thumbs up for that! 🙂
Wondering what the adults got?
For the Appetizers, we started off with Squid and Scallop/cauliflower. We thought it would be a rather fishy dish, since it’s a cold starter. But to our surprise, there was not trace of seafood fishy-ness, and the scallops were so so fresh and large!
Check out our Garoupa with dry tomato risotto. For fish lovers, this is a dish to savour! The fresh was so fresh, that the words “So fresh”, kept rolling off our tongues, as we sampled the Garoupa for ourselves. I reckon that this was one of the best dishes for our lunch! 🙂
As one of us had the fish, the other tried the Beef cheek stew with red wine/ Water Apple Chutney. Beautifully plated and another main course that satisfed our hunger pangs,
And to end it all off, we had dessert!
We ended the meal, with a dessert that was light and full of crumbly delights. Together with the ice cream, the sweetness of the occasion was brought out, as it brought joy to all our taste buds. If you are looking to mark that special milestone in your life, Lewin Terrace scores very highly in terms of ambience. The whole setting brings one back in time, and you can’t help but talk softly, when you enter the dining area. The food will not disappoint Western DIners, who are looking for something different to introduce to their guests. The points for taste goes to the freshness of the produce being served. Most Fine Dining Restaurants do not have a kid’s menu, and we are glad that Lewin Terrace has added that attention to their menu! 🙂
