Orchard Road Pedestrian Night

Advertorial

When we talk about shopping in Singapore, Orchard Road is the prime shopping area for locals and tourists alike. With the recent Orchard Road closures, pedestrians are made “Kings of the Road”, and a new paradigm has been brought to the shopping area. The Orchard Road Pedestrian night is held on the first Saturday of each month, and there is one more coming up on the first week of February.

Every visit to the Orchard Road Pedestrian Night has been a discovery of “New things!” for the family. As each road closure has a different theme, one does not know what to expect at every Pedestrian night.  The January road closure was another special occasion for everyone, as  locals and tourist were still in the “New Year” mood. With the Christmas decorations making it’s last appearance on the block, there was just a special festive atmosphere in the air. orchard decorations

For the January Orchard Road closure, do take a look at what we experienced! 🙂

The girls from Samsung were there to help us experience the newest gadgets in virtual reality.  Most of us have never experienced the latest Samsung Gear VR, and we were game to try out the latest gadgets that Samsung had to offer.

Putting on the Samsung Gear VR, one is brought to new levels of unexplored virtual fun. Working together with a Samsung Galaxy Smartphone and the integrated headgear, one is brought to a theater, where users can watch the latest programs of their choice. Turn one’s head from left to right, and the screen changes in orientation, bringing the latest television series from Netflix to life.

Besides the Samsung “pop out”store, visitors to the Orchard Road closure, were also entertained by Street performers. Bringing their own brand of humor and interaction, the crowds stood transfixed by the buskers.  Together with the Built up stage, which brought with it scheduled entertainment, there was always something different along Orchard Road. juggling act

The highlight of the night were the street performers from Chingay 2016. Dressed in their bright costumes, representing the different aspects of the parade, the performers were a natural magnet for the Orchard Road crowds. From stilt workers to percussion drummers, there was a natural vibrancy to the Chiangay performers, that kept the crowds growing through the night.

Naturally, tourists and locals alike, were quick to whip out their smartphones and capture their own “magic moments” with the performers. Check out the crowds’ many reactions in the photos below:
