High Tea at the Majestic Hotel KL

To enjoy Colonial excellence in Malaysia, you have got to visit the Majestic Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. Built in 1932, the Majestic Hotel is a symbol of British domination in the Colonial Era. Besides the luxurious rooms which we visited in Part 1 of our Majestic Hotel review, you have got to check out the food at this historic hotel.

Just like the Raffles Hotel in Singapore, one of the  “MUST DO” items on your checklist in Malaysia is to have some Tea and Scones at the Tea Lounge.

Complete with a pianist that belts our your favourite jazz cum classical tunes, the Tea Lounge is a great place to meet with your friends and business partners. Can you imagine myself sitting here with a cup of Earl Grey Tea, and slowly nibbling on your favourite pastries at this Tea Lounge. Simply Relaxing!

And when you order High Tea, this is what you can expect:

A double deck of Sandwiches, Scones and Pastries, which any foodie would just love! Just looking at the food made the kids hungry, and they were ready to devour the food at their disposal.

One of the best places to consume your High Tea at the Majestic Hotel is in the Orchid Conservatory. This Greenhouse is located within the Hotel and it is similar to one of those little Greenhouses which you can find in the Botanic Gardens. Cooled down with Air-conditioning, this room is decorated beautifully with colourful Orchids, and it is a sight to behold. If you have the time, do add a visit to this conservatory, into your holiday schedule.

The greenhouse is a favourite with locals, so do expect to make advance bookings for a visit. According to hotel sources, patrons need to make a 2 month advance booking, to secure a weekend seat in the conservatory.

Being a 5 Star Luxury Hotel, the Majestic Hotel KL has a host of different restaurants to satisfy your cravings. Here are a few of the other restaurants that we managed to visit during our stay in KL.

The Colonial Cafe recreates the atmosphere of the halcyon days of the planters of Malaya and offers authentic classical cuisine from the colonial era.

jazz band

With a full Jazz band, for the dinner service, we loved the ambience the moment we stepped into the cafe. If you are looking for some a-la-carte local favourites. This is the place for you!

The kids had local favourites like Chicken Rice Ball, while the adults had a juicy Wagyu Stew with some traditional Beef Stew.

Another restaurant worth a mention is the Contango.

Contango is located in the Tower Wing and comes with a luxuriously designed contemporary restaurant. Featuring an open interactive dining concept with a seating capacity for 250 people, Contango offers a dinner buffet that is comparable to other famous buffets offered in Singapore. If you love Seafood, you will love the dinner buffet at the Contango! Smile

With Crabs, Oysters, Mussels and prawns, expect all your favourite seafood at this buffet. The good news is that the food does not stop there! You will be offered a variety of food that will threaten to add a few inches to your waistline. Guests will be glad to know that the dinner menu includes Western and Eastern Cuisine featuring  Italian, Japanese, Chinese and Malay food. If you have only 1 night to experience the Asian cuisine in Malaysia, the Contango might just be the restaurant for you.

As usual, I made a bee-line for the Salmon Sashimi which has always been a favourite of mine. The kids loved the Spaghetti and Chinese Noodles, which they finished without any complaints.  This is an important attribute of family dining, as happy children means that Dinner can be enjoyed peacefully! Do check out the the gamut of cakes and pastries which the kitchen offers. There were just so many sinful choices, that I was apprehensive about whether I had time to hit the gym after dinner…

Don’t think about your diet, when you go for dinner at the Contango.

For those who love a bit of alcohol along with your dinner, you would love to know that you can consume an unlimited amount of Beer and house Wines for just $30 Ringget. Definitely quite a good deal if you have a good stomach for alcohol.

As you can see, there is really so much to eat and explore at the Majestic Hotel KL. We are definitely looking forward to our return visit to the Hotel.
