Guksu: Korean Hotpot, Jeongol, Noodles

Sponsored Review

Singapore is falling in love with Korea. With K-Pop and Korean movies, many people are not just learning Korean, but they are making Korea one of their top holiday destinations. Korean food is the latest rage to hit our shores! Recently, we were invited to Guksu. A Korean Restaurant in Suntec City which serves Korean Hotpot, Jeongol and Noodles.

First off, what on earth is Jeongol.

Jeongol is a category of elaborate stews or casseroles in Korean Cuisine. Containing a variety of main ingredients, Jeongol was originally a dish for upper-class Koreans and members of the royal court. Therefore, if you want to dine like a Korean gentry, Jeongol is the way to go! 🙂

Check out the variety of Jeongol which they serve:

We had the privilege to sample 2 types of Jeongol

Haemul Jjim Dak ($45.90)

Basically this is a seafood hotpot where you will find your favorite seafood goodies like Prawns and Crabs. The broth was not too spicy for us, and we had a good time slurping up the soup.

Bulgogi Jeongol (Beef – $48.90)

Beef always goes well with my family, and my family loved the sauteed beef which tasted great in the broth. The hotpot comes complete with lots of vegetables and mushrooms.

The Jeongols which they serve are supposed to serve 2-4 people. However, we think that they are at best able to feed 3 grown men. Therefore, if your party consists of 4 ladies, 1 Hotpot may be enough for everybody.

One side worth talking about their fried chicken!

As a lover of friend chicken, I just love to devour these babies. They serve 5 types of fried drumsticks. They are garlic, soya sauce, sweet & sour, spicy, and honey glaze ($3.90 for 1 piece, $11 for 3, $21 for 6). Personally, I am not so “into” friend chicken from Korea. I once queued up for 4 fingers, and I told myself “Never again”. I simply prefer my KFC and Popeye!

However, I personally feel that the fried chicken here is more suited for local taste buds. I found the soya sauce chicken at other Korean food outlets overly soaked. However, the Soya Sauce chicken here has the right balance of soya sauce for me. The chicken is succulent and moist under the fried paste. The kids love the fact that they provided gloves for our dinner! It definitely made us less conscious, when we devoured these babies in the nice restaurant.

One of the very authentic dishes in Guksu is the kimchi which they served! Ingredients are very fresh and my wife loved it.

As someone who frequents Suntec City, the Hotspot and Fried Chicken are definitely worth going back for. So, if you are in the Suntec area, do drop by Guksu.
