It’s the time of the year again to celebrate our beloved Popo’s (Grandmother) Birthday!
As usual, we decided to look through our food encyclopaedia and we visited I eat-I shoot–I post. This medical doctor is a real food connoisseur and he gives great food reviews ranging from restaurants all the way to local food.
This year, we decided to try out 18 Chefs at Simei’s Eastpoint Mall.
Based on Jamie Oliver’s restaurant which gives work to disadvantaged youths, a local ex-con went over to learn from Jamie himself! He opened his own restaurant and gives the same opportunities to troubled youths.
What a great social cause!
Anyway, the restaurant has some rave reviews and we decided to try it out!
Walking into the restaurant, the ambience and feel of the restaurant is trendy and casual. It was nicely decorated, and the food menu is really cheap for students.
A student’s meal consisting of Pasta, a drink and an ice cream is priced affordably at $6.40. They even have special prices for Nurses, as the restaurant is situated next to Changi General Hospital.
The food – Actually I feel it’s only Ok…I eat-I shoot-I post recommends their baked rice with crabs, but we did not have the opportunity to try it, as you will have to call 2 days in advance.
I ordered pasta but I found it bland…Their baked rice was much better. However, they are definitely a restaurant with a social cause. Throughout my experience at the restaurant, I was served by youths with tattoos and earrings…even the chef was a youth with tattoos.
I feel that because the restaurant has expanded by having a branch in Tiong Bahru as well….food quality may have been compromised.
Service wise…they were very quick and they even presented Popo with a complimentary slice of cake and ice cream, as it was her birthday!
However, most importantly. Popo enjoyed her birthday celebration…and the kids and their cousin enjoyed their “Nutella” cake.
The kids also enjoyed their family day out!
