We first heard of The Learning Lab while shopping at United Square. Situated on the top floor of the shopping mall, we immediately noticed the center’s professional corporate culture. As we walked pass the windows and read their introductory literature, we were impressed with their trek record.

We found out that The Learning Lab (TLL) has an unrivaled track record in placement and exam success. The center has consistently producing Singapore’s top students at PSLE with over 90% of their 2014 graduates scoring As and more than 500 students scoring at least 250
and above. Many of their students have also gained admission into the Gifted Education
Program (GEP), the best Integrated Programs (IPs), including RI, RGS, HCI, NYGH,
ACS(I), NUS High, VJC, NJC, and SOTA, amongst others. To date TTL has produced 7 President scholars and 27 PSC scholars. For more than a decade, their students & graduates have gained admission into the Gifted Education Program (GEP), Integrated Program (IP), Ivy Leagues universities in USA, Oxbridge in UK and many other top universities in the world.

Impressive right! 🙂

Naturally, as a Premium center, we parents are always wondering if The Learning Lab can really help our children improve. Herein lies our Family’s experiment!  Nathan has been invited for a semester of English at The Learning Lab, and we are wondering how he will progress in his language skills at the center!

We went for a briefing and these are some of the useful facts that we have discovered about The Learning Lab.

  • As a center is only as good as its teachers. The Learning Lab (TLL) teachers receive a minimum of 200 hours of training before they are permitted to start teaching classes. In addition to being mentored by senior teachers, new teachers are closely observed by the quality management team during classes, to ensure quality lessons.
  • As The Learning Lab has full time curriculum writers, they have a weekly-refreshed programme featuring current topics sourced from established publications like The New York Times and The Economist. This ensures that they cover up to date topics.  For example, Lee Kuan Yew’s case study was written and released on the day of his passing.

Well, Nathan has just finished his 1st lesson at The Learning Lab, and he came back with a glowing report. He was quick to tell us, how good his lesson was, as he found the topics covered interesting and engaging. He is looking forward to the next class! His only gripe, was that there were too many girls in class! 🙂

To add to The Learning Lab experience, we also received a phone call from the teacher, who was quick to give us feedback about Nathan. As he as new, he was naturally very shy in class and a bit quiet. But his teacher was quick to  ask about Nathan’s passions and hobbies. She further asked about his aspirations, and wanted to find out if there are any problem areas, that we want them them to focus on. If there were such areas, they would tailor certain parts of the lesson to help him. It was definitely very encouraging to hear that he has such a caring teacher.

Well, It was definitely reassuring to hear from the teacher, and we are looking forward to hear about Nathan’s progress over the next few months! 🙂
